While applying for "Self Sponsorship Residence Permit " the required criteria says the following :
Required Documents :
*Service request form.
*A clear copy of the passport.
*A clear copy of the ID.
*Certificate of good conduct & behavior.
*Copy of the tenancy agreement
Is tenancy agreement " rental agreement " really necessary ?
What if I am not looking to rent long term and want a residence permit to be issued ?

Self sponsorship is available to 3 categories of people:
1) Retired expats who have worked in Bahrain and GCC for at least 15 years.
2) Property owners
3) Investors

All three of these categories are people who should have normal residence in Bahrain - rented in the case of (1) and (3) and owned in case of (2).

If your situation (or requirement) is different, you may find it difficult to "self-sponsor".
