Hello,
I am en Estonian American living in France for the last 14 years. I graduated from Boston University with a M.A of French Language & Literature degree and taught French at the same university and at the charter school, later worked successfully as for publishing for French Speaking Europe for 11 years. For the last 2 years I have been developing my own project. Last year we moved to Ariège, which is a very beautiful region in France and not too far from Toulouse, unfortunately no bilingual (English/French) schools exist in Ariège, so I have decided to work on the very challenging project of setting up a private bilingual kindergarten and primary school here in Ariège. I would like to set up a school that respects, in addition to French System, also international standards, and to offer children a positive and stimulating learning environment.
If anyone is interested working on this project with me, or just interested sharing their thoughts, challenges, feelings etc please don’t hesitate to contact me. We would also like to set up a Language Learning Center, and if this project will take off, will need dedicated people to be part of it. Thanks for reading and hoping to hear from you!
Elke
I have a book for adults and children to help people learn 5 languages and French-English are included.
Italian, Spanish, Portuguese are the other three languages.
Thanks for sharing! Once we are set up it will be interesting to review it and perhaps use it. Stay in touch!

Happy Thanksgiving
Bonjour,
After coming across your blog, its sounds very close to what I'm trying to do.
I think I wrote a little about myself here, but not enough. I'm an American English teacher. I have lived in France a little over 5 years. Unfortunately, I dont speak French very well. I have missed so many opportunities its scary!
I teach English privately using my own method, which works!
I have cut my own throat, because most of my students already speak English and they just want to improve.
I find myself speaking English a lot more than French. I also speak English at home with my two boys who speak French, thanks to school and their friends.
I have so many ideas to start a school. Good ideas, things that really work.
I have gone to several business meetings in Nantes, Paris and Laval. It's all the same thing.
There are so many restrictions when working with children. I feel its right back to zero.
The whole idea of starting my own business was to step out of the conditioned school system. It doesn't' work.
People in France, do not speak English! Even after years of schooling. What is the problem?
I know the problem, I wonder if you would agree.
I wont ramble on here, if you are interested, of course we can Skype or talk on the phone!
Good day!
Mme Avenia

Hello,
Would love to know more about the project, whereabouts are you in the Ariege? Please email on jenkbarnes@gmail.com asap!! Thanks,
Jenny
Hello, I am new to this site, and saw this, although it it very old now (2014)
Can you please let me know if you did achieve your school goal?
We are looking to move to France at the end of 2020 but have a 7 year old. Worried about non English speaking school for him.
Can you offer any advice?
Thank you 😍
Hi,
Like any parent, you look to the well-being of your children. But why want to keep it in a language / culture? You have the chance to be able to make him discover something new. Let him enjoy it.
Learning a foreign language for a child is not a problem. Yes, it will be difficult the first days. But in less than two months, he will speak better French than you in a year.
So put it in the normal French public education.
My daughter is 14 years old and speaks French / Portuguese / English. My son is 4 years old and speaks French / Portuguese.
Thank you. I know that is probably the best way to do it. Just wanted to explore all options for him as he is a very sensitive soul.
Are you local to the Ariege area? If so, which school did you choose? We will be coming out in August to investigate xx
I am absolutely not from the region. I am just a father who is always surprised to see expatriates coming in search of a ghetto for their children. Just because of the language barrier.
Of course your son plays on the chord. He knows you. But believe me, he is no more crystal than any other child. Yes, he'll blame you at first. You make him give up his friends and his little habits. Let the storm pass. He will thank you later.
Did this project get off the ground? I agree with the last post that young childern should go to local school where they will adapt and learn and pick up the language quickly. We have a 7 and 12 year old. I think the 7 year old will be fine. I am more concerend with the soon to be teenager coming into a new country, new language and new social situation. And then not too far there will be exams and pre Universtiy education. For this reason we are looking for a billingual education for her. Anyone know anything in Ariege? We are also considering Galicia and the South of Spain. I have found schools in both the later places. I can't seem to find anything in Ariege.
Thanks Mark
