Please help. Childcare and other questions... In Jeddah

Post new topic

I've got a job offer to work in Jeddah.
If Things go smooth, I will be leaving in January.
Just a few questions here:
1. We have a 6 months old. Are there any baby toddlers groups in the western compound? And how much is the rate for babysitting or childming?

2. My husband will be my dependant. He will be working on a few writing projects at home. Is it a problem in the culture of Saudi arabia that men works and be the bread-winner in the family? Will he be looked down Upon by the locals?

3. Can he work on family visa if he gets offered a job there?

4. He's an Italian, can he offer Italian lessons privately?

5. Is it true that all the softwares on the computers might be the original copies and the customs will check?

First of all nobody is going to look down on your husband for not being the provider of the family. He can post an ad and offer lessons in Italian language for those who are interested in learning Italian, and if he found a job, he should transfer his sponsorship to the new employer.

There is a weekly baby/toddler group on Wednesday mornings called Village Tots. If you are looking for more of a day care situation there are some on western compounds, but I think most are only part day and only take children from one or 18 months depending on compound. Again cost varies per place.....If you hire a nanny or maid they  can be around 25 sar an hour.

As the dependant your husband will have it a little easier, because he can drive as needed where as the other "trailing spouces" are not allowed to drive  (nor will you be able to) & have to rely on when the husband comes home or a hired driver to get around when needed.
