Just about to secure a new job in Istanbul. Would love to hear about British life in Istanbul.

How do you get on?
What did you not take with you, and wished you did?.
The food
The water
Living in an apartment
Air con or not?
Living expenses
Language barriers?
The internet?
How safe? night and day...
Best of British, The weather?
What clothing?
and the most important SHOPPING.

Thank you in advance.

Hey Drew,

I don't think you will be totally fine with the language around as many people knows English but of course except the local and traditional neighborhoods of Istanbul .And the level of English that we all speak usually varies but as I said you will be just fine. Food is incredibly delicious if you love the Med Cuisine. (no I am not bragging you will experience it and then confirm it haha) Istanbul is an expensive city but again dpeends on where you rent an apartment and how much are you willing to commute to your work place. commuting sucks here as the traffic jam gets insanely crazy too. Except the traffic it is a  very lovely city , tons of expats you will get to meet and Turks are pretty friendly they will take you as u are from here...Istanbul is not the safest city in the world just watch out where u are .again the neighborhood where u live is important to say if it is a safe place to live or not. I have many American friends who live in the suburbs of the city they haven't had any single problems with the locals at all so far..All u need to do is to be careful in the city byt u don't need to walk around suspciously..does that make sense?Istanbul's weather has been gradually changing into the warmer weather year by year so the weathe is around 12s currently it hasn't been that cold in the past decade..but I would say the lowest around would be 5 degree C

Shopping? what r we talking about here? the big designers or local brands_? keep in mind Turkey is the bigger Textile exporter we have our own good brands but the international brands are not that reasonable for sure.

Hope this info helps!

Let me know if u need more info?

cheers!

A big thanks to you wanderlust, nice to see a point of view, as you`re  living in Istanbul. Sounds a great place, to be, and of course to be street wise goes a long way. Food sure, love the med lifestyle, suit me fine. Its nice to get the vibe from others.

I have looked through the u-tube clips, and there is plenty to do and see. One thing that  I`d be looking forward to is the Turkish coffee, big fan!.

Lived in China for a while, loved that experience, especially the outdoor lifestyle, eat and socialise. Unlike the UK behind doors, its like living in a prison I suppose as an analogy.

Like to ask, I have a passions for cycling, which in Asia was perfect, how does Istanbul cater?

Thanks once again.
