More details:
Markusovszky Ter

Budapest residents, expats and visitors will gather to clean Markusovszky Ter on September 4 from 11 to 18:00.

This large square is divided into two parts. We will work on the front portion which lies along Üllői út. The plans for this section are unclear. Budapest residents and some websites claim that a hotel will be built but there are no advertised plans or signs. Due to this lack of attention, trash has built up and greenery has become overgrown. The square’s central location makes it easily visible to locals and visitors. Residents and local businesspeople commuting from Ferenc Korut metro and tram stops along with tourists going between the Applied Arts Museum and Raday utca all pass it. In response to this great need, a group of friends pooled together to organize a day-long cleanup and small-scale street festival.

This square was the home of Kultiplex, a concert hall in a historic building. Kultiplex was operated by Tilos, Hungary’s first community radio station. The concert hall was closed in March, 2008 amid protests to protect the historic building and well-liked concert venue.

Redesign and construction work is currently in progress in the larger portion of the square, away from Üllői út. The space will be named “Markusovszky Park” and an on-site sign claims that it will be complete on October 31, 2010. Because work is clearly progressing and owners are identified, the community cleanup will not take place in this section.

jajajaja , must be a joke !!

Nope, people, even Hungarian people get together to do some good at times.
We have ragweed-extermination rallies in our village, and the most surprising people will show up and help, and then we learn a lot about them and our prejudices :-)

Good news--Tilos Radio will come to provide music while we work!

Thanks for the confidence boost, szocske. I'm optimistic and hope you're right. The people that I've talked to might chuckle a little but are pretty enthusiastic.

It's been nearly impossible to get businesses to donate their services but Tilos came through!
