I am in need of very specific fabrics and need to know where the big market is as only the largest supply the sorts of things I'm looking for.

1st is a pants material that has been wonderful for 12 years in asia. Its a material I first found in modern Amer. military blankets since they abandoned wool. Its cotton, but like gore-tex, the cotton weaves are stretched extremely tight making them as a squeezed sponge giving me the softness of cotton, the durability of denim and the water retention of wool (unstretched cotton retains 200% of it's mass in moisture) and they still look good after 12 years of regular wear. Quite comfortable wet or dry and they dry quite fast and never need ironing..

In Bangkok, there is a market as big as a town near Pantip (where I bought the last yards) and I'm fairly certain that Ho Chi Minh is of a size to support something similar. I plan to buy the material and high quality thread and hand it over to a local taylor with the order to use the "whole nine yards" (meaning to cut in such a way as to keep the threads in line for the greatest strength thus using more material for better quality) and a sample pair for sizing.

Inconvenient when I could just go buy some, but another 12 years of comfortable, stylish , iron-free and easy-to-clean pants seem worth it to me and the taylors here are quite capable and reasonable.

If anyone reading this is in the trade and has stock, I buy black.

Thanks in advance for any replies. They are starting to show some age and its time.

The Ho Chi Minh Fabric Market is in ChoLon. The new building where the market will be located in is nearing completion but it is in the same immediate area.

It can be found in the block bounded by HONG BANG, DO NGOC THANH, NGUYEN TRAI and HOC LAC. GPS: 10.754101, 106.656092

The material is found in many stores in the area's small streets and alleys and sold by the metre from bolts of cloth.

Thanks so much. Your reply is greatly appreciated and exactly what I was looking for.
