I am ex uk forces and love mountain sports so plan to spend my time off in Bulgaria . I am keen to meet new people who can offer me advice . I plan a week to visit Bansko and other areas of Bulgaria in the first week of Feb 15 .

Hi Sam, good luck with your move to Bansko I spent a week there last April pretty cool place, plenty of landscape to admire and explore, and then come down in to the town for a drink and meal at the many brilliant mehana restaurants, there is a bar run by ex forces called the london pub, they can probably get you a few contacts the guy thats runs it is called Spencer Norman, it isnt a traditional BG place its his English pub, pints and steak and chips type but it ok as a meet and greet to introduce yourself?
We ate at a few more traditional places one called "yobahobxah" ha ha well almost that??
Wine, beers, roasted hog, or chicken soup and bread the foods awsome in BG!!
Cheers Steve.

Thanks  Steve ,
I am used to the bigger alpine resorts in Alps , mainly the french resorts places like chamonix etc. But realistically far too expensive to buy and live.So Bansko seems like a good compromise with  mountain biking/hiking/paragliding in summer too. Thanks for your tips I will check those places out. Did you find it a cheap place to eat and drink , I wonder if summer might be a better time to buy a small apartment ? Cheers Sam.

Hi Sam yes eating and drinks are cheap, but the foods good, tasty dishes, not lean cuisine tho!
We stayed in Bansko and met a family that had a chalet there, sadly there are a few that look empty so it may be something to consider, obviously to the local towns and rural villages are options but the downside is you would be quite isolated, we drove from Sofia airport roads through the Rila and Pirin mountains the roads where good, had a few other places to stay in central BG, near VT, Lovech, and Arbanasi, again easy enough with a gps to get to, the traffic is less than anywhere I've ever been that's something I like too.
I have a farm house that I have been doing up near Ruse I am out again in May flying in to Sofia, then in August flying in from Bucharest, which is nearer for me.
Take your time looking at the houses mate ( I cocked up a bit rushing in buying 2 houses because the price's are so cheap, I kept one but backed out of the other losing my deposit and months payment lesson learnt) maybe consider Montana which is near the lom national park you pass through the Isker gorge, it borders along Serbia.
Cheers Steve.

Hello Sam,

I moved your post to the Bulgaria forum for a better visibility.

As for your search, I suggest that you try to have a look at the Housing in Bulgaria section and to post an ad there as well.
