We invite you to talk about the cost of living in South Africa in 2015, with an updated price listing.

How much does it cost to live in South Africa?

> accommodation prices

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc.)

> accommodation prices (2-3 beds ranges from 8-14K based on which location you choose.) (I am in Fourways Johannesburg in a 2 bed which costs 10K)

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc.) (if you go to an office public transport is not an option really- BAD) (you have to have a car)

> food prices (your monthly budget) (monthly grocery for a 2 Adult and 1 Kid family - 5-6K)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance) (expensive - 4- 6 K for a medical cover for 2A 1C family)

> education prices (if you need to pay) (avg 8K a month if you are targeting a good private school)

> energy prices (oil, electricity) (electricity bill avg 300 pm) (oil was 13 per ltr when I was last in SA sept2014)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone) (internet 500, 600 tv, Phone 150-300 , mobile 300)

> price for a good menu in a traditional restaurant (keep say 150- 200 per head)

one is also to remember the poor traffic conditions, which takes 1 half to 2 hours to get to work.
High insurance premuims, and the interest rate of 10 % (average) on car finance.
Average car is over R165'000 to R220'000.

flights domestic is between R750 - R1200 one way ticket

Cape Town, decent family house R10k to R15k pcm

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc.)

R500 pcm

Around R5k pcm

Adults R2000 pcm each, kids free or cheaper

> education prices (if you need to pay)

R3k per child pcm

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

Increasing FAST due to weak currency and incompetent ANC leadership. Electric R1500 pcm, all other utilities together R500 pcm

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

TV = R700 pcm HD satellite, internet slow and expensive R600 pcm, mobilr R500 pcm

Main course R125, bottle decent local wine R125

Johanesburg (Sunninghill), 2 bedroom apartment R8k to R10k per month (pm)

Car maintenance R 3000 /year - i bought my car and not renting
Petrol R 600 pm

Around R 2700 pm for one person

Depends on which plan you are, Hospital cover only R1200 pm. I am also on Discovery vitality R 185pm
