Internal matters are not EU matters.
The EU does not and cannot legislate everything in their member States.
Can you just imagine the outcry if they tried, there would be no EU, which foremost is about trade.
It is an economic and political partnership - not a pan European Law making entity (though some may think it is sometimes).
the deal in tax evasion is an EU matter simple as - its one of things that is mandatory to be tackled in taking membership and the EU cash... if they dont want to do it which seems quite clear to me - -then get out of the EU but they dont want to do that either - its all about the money.....
In that case; UK, Portugal, Cyprus and Greece, to name just a few, should also get out.

Perhaps and that's a matter for referendum but it doesn't change the argument that Malta is not acting alone in this behaviour and that it is an internal matter for legislation. Did you read that UK's Chancellor, when a back bencher, advised, whilst on TV, a caller to consider using “clever financial products” to avoid incurring inheritance tax? He stated “There are some pretty clever financial products which enable you to - in effect - pass on your home, or the value of your home, to your son or daughter and then get personal care paid for by the state.”

No, we are not going off topic here because tax evasion by landlords is a big deal out here.
It can affect utility charges and security of tenure for example.
We are just discussing that unfortunately, Malta is not alone in this practise though other countries do have far more stringent laws and they enforce them. Unfortunately, Malta does not.
The other issue discussed is should expats interfere with internal affairs of their host country?
I say Nay, others say Yay.
Will the new requirement for those applying for e-residency to have a copy of Landlords id card to prove rental of property cause further issues for tennants ?
i am wondering that someone who isn't declaring they are renting isnt going to want to provide tenant with such information
When was this updated please. I have not seen this previously and perhaps my article needs to be updated?
Doe sit apply in all cases as I have only gone into details regarding EU citizens and self sufficiency.
Is this TCN only?

Its on the notes page here it seems it applies to everyone applying for residency
so what happens if the Landlord refuses - cant register as a resident.... oh dear where is this gong to end.....
I get why because they have had issues with people giving fake or other peoples addresses in order to gain residency (this is what man told me in summer) so i guess its just to make sure that someone is genuinly renting a property etc
but yeah i can see this causing more issues than it solves
Just read these posts,we are due over to live in Gozo this April, both British passport holders, one claiming state pension, the plan is to arrive find a property to rent apply for OR. under self sufficiency then apply for RHA entitlement, would this be the order in which to do things. (will we have to prove health insurance before getting ID card,) Regards.Eddiepie.
yes you need to have health cover in place before the application for e-residency
if in state pension then that paper work needs to be produced if not yet state pensioned and are retired and not working then you need to go to the entitlement unit with your passport and lease and get the RHA - they will give you a temp certificate which you then take to the e-res dept.

note Darryl there is no such thing as a maltese id card now for eu nationals . they were outlawed and replaced by the e-residency permit. card

Ah I see... Thanks toon, still have not sorted my e residency card out... Seems like it's going to bit a lot harder now.... Can't see my landlady letting me take copies of her ID card..... I have job and contract, tenancy agreement, bills in my name and in maltese address ... Not got a maltese bank yet tho.... That seems like hard work to after my visit to BOV the other day.... Got police conduct... Just trying to work out what else I need... Was going tomorrow..

am not saying they wont demand it of you as it may well be down to who you see and what they can be bothered to ask for - as is the case in many entities throughout the islands - think banks...
You only need the bits releavnt to your application so if employed you will need work letter and contract etc I was simply highlighting the new notes so people were aware what was needed ..

You shouldn't need a bank account to get e residency unless your applying as self sufficient or self employed etc
We weren't asked for our bank details
I took my forms to the Evans building a couple days ago and I was not asked for health info. I was surprised how quick it was- she said within 8 weeks I will get a notice to pick up my eresidency card and that's it. I gave her the ETC form as well, not filled out as I said I am still looking for work, and she said it was fine.

one thing seems to be clear to me and that is there is inconsistency in what they really accept as opposed to what they formally and legally require you to provide!!!! good luck guys

Relieved to see that my original article's link sends the reader to the site with that updated information on so it's still valid.
Have to wonder sometimes though how many people actually read articles and information before asking questions.
I continue to believe that the number of different replies to questions posed to officials is directly proportional to the number of people asked in that office.
If something doesn't work at one desk, simply go to another or try again on another day.
