Hi Zad007,

I created a new topic as from your post on the Alberta forum.

James

Hello Zad007,

Well, given the drop in oil prices one could hardly expect Alberta to pass completely untouched. That said the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce - CIBC is predicting that the Alberta economy will shirkn by 0.3% through 2015. That certainly is not a prediction of the end of the world by any means.

One must remember that oil prices are cyclical and they're bound to rise again. I wouldn't be too hasty to make any gloom and doom predictions about Alberta just yet. They're still one of the best bets as far as the Canadian economy is concerned despite what the CIBC is saying in the article linked below. You've got to remember that they are a very pro-Ontario/Quebec bank and always have been so you have to take some of what they say about the rest of Canada with a very large grain of salt. Also the lower value of the "Loonie" against the US "Greenback" always favors Eastern Canada. That is also just a temporary situation and the Canadian dollar is bound to rise sooner or later.
