Chilli's Restaurant

So tonights adventure involves going to Chilli's for some dessert. Went with the wife and some friends, then after sitting down I noticed the smell of smoke. I don't ever remember having that experience, so I called the waiter. Asked him if smoking was allowed, he said it is and that the no smoking section (open area) has been closed down.
I didn't get the clear picture so I just asked him for the manager. He came by and I explained how I'd like to be moved to an area away from smoke. He explains that the open area is now closed and all that's left is this closed (booth type) area. I asked him when the hell did that happen, cause I remember always coming to the open area. He then goes on to tell me that the boys in town came and closed that part of the restaurant down, set a new rule that women can't come alone anymore, and for the open area to be converted to booths with curtains.
I couldn't believe it. Yes, this is how it is here. I get it, it's deep in my thick skull, so don't tell me about that. Just letting you all know my experience and for everyone to see that this is getting serious. Simply unbelievable.
I just had my dinner there, tonight, and I don't know if it's allowed to smoke or not, but I didn't smell any smoke. It's weird that some restaurant allows people to smoke inside! Specialy in the families section.

I do not patronize any restaurant that allows smoking. Id rather eat a Shawarma in my car.
You guys are missing the point.
The smoking part was only a lead-in as to why he happened to be talking to the manager about the 'open' area, which is now CLOSED because the '___________________' (gap fill exercise!!) don't want people to be in a large room with other people, even if they're families. So from now on, curtained booths.
Oh, and single women are no longer considered acceptable for the curtained booth 'family' section so will no longer be allowed into Chili's at all.
Did I get this right, Beezer?
Oh my! This does sound a bit crazy...
Yup Alliecat, hit it right on the nose. hahaha, smoking was just leading to the real bit of info I wanted to share.
I need to buy a thobe and fanbelt - I enjoy Chillies - or rather, used to before the 'guys in town' popped in for a smoke.
Curtained booths?! Jeez. I can't believe women can't come by themselves anymore. Is it that strict in Jubail, too?
When I get there, I am going to open a private restaurant, "Porky's", that you can all come to, the catch is I will be the enforcer. You can call me M. Abaya's at the door, maximum 75% of clothing, minimum 25% skin, hair styling is compulosry, except for those with receeding hair lines like me, you must shake my left hand to get in because this is the secret handshake.
Porky's......it only comes with moonshine!
Any ideas on location?

You may wanna try the little pearl fishing island of yesteryears across the causeway
I enjoy a smoke after eating, but not if it annoys others and I always ask people close to me before lighting up, no problem if they object - I would just go outside for 5 minutes instead.

Can Anyone tell me where is Chilli's Restaurant. I would love to go and try food.

Tahliya Street east end.
Tahliya is the first RIGHT when driving North on Olaya Street from your place
Chili's is my favorite chain in the US.
But Anil, don't be misled--the name of the restaurant should not be interpreted that the food there is HOT.
It's fairly mild American and Tex-Mex--GREAT burgers as well as fahitas and quesadillas (in the US, that is. Obviously I won't be able to vouch for the food here!).
Musicman.
I have been across the causeway a few times and I love it. I am actually going to move there after a stint in Riyadh. That is the plan!
I personally like Friday's out of all the American restaurant chains here.
Applebees (Tahlia), Chilli's (Tahlia), Fridays (Takhassussi).
Fridays, now your talking
Do they get their ribs from dinosaurs? I use the one off J10

There is no Chili's in Jubail, belisha. There's one down in Khobar, on the Corniche and you should be able to enter the "family" section on your own. Since it's 45 minutes from Jubail, how you are going to get there, without your husband driving, remains a mystery.

Jubail also has its own list of fast food outlets on the corniche. They are really good.

Wow, Jubail sounds like a happening place, hehehe! Maybe on Fridays I can explore the Corniche of Jubail and check out the restos, as musicman said, and hope they have women's sections...
They all have women's sections. There is a Subway sandwich, Baskin Robbins ice cream, a couple of Saudi chains, The Steakhouse, New Zealand ice cream and a few scattered ME food establishments.
The Corniche in Fanatier is just now growing and lots of shops and restaurants will be established in the coming year or two, so there will be even more choice.
You'll be fine, in your black bag...
When are you going to show up there? (Sorry I left before meeting you.)
In about 2 weeks, fingers crossed. My husband gets his yellow paper any day now and then we do our paperwork. I've had my medical done here already and everything; just ready to hand it over.
I've been hanging around this forum almost every day and now I'm so excited to be in Saudi - imagine that
Yeah, too bad that you left already before we could get together for a bbq... I was really looking forward to meeting you, and you seem to be the Jubail guru too... But anyway, hope all is well where you are and that things are working out for you.

So things are actually changing for the worse here.. I think I need a holiday..
Well now, kzm40, it could just be an isolated occurrence. Plus we don't know if it was even actually implemented.
Anybody been to Chili's in the last week or two??
I'll try and go again sometime. Folks came to visit, so might be kind of tough. But we went Outback today and it's still open and great over there
