A cunning plan... we'll all help each other

Calling all Expat.comgers!

We would all like a bit of extra traffic on our blogs, let's face it, we all write in order to be read.  One way in which we can gain higher rankings on searches is to have more sites linking to our own blogs.  And the higher the ranking, the more visitors we'll get.

So here's the (simple) plan.  If we all create a link to each other's blogs, and each of us reciprocate, then each of our blogs will do better in searches and our blogs will be deemed to carry more authority.  And we'll all get more visitors.

So, for instance, my blog is http://tenerifescribbler.blogspot.com/.  You link to mine, let me know you've done so, and I'll link to yours.  Best way to let me know you've linked is simply to leave a comment on one of the posts in my blog.

If you want to increase visitors to your site like this, then post a reply below, with your blog address.  Then we can all see who's prepared to swap links, and we can all link to you.  When we add you as a link, we'll leave a comment on your most recent post, so you will know where to link back to.

Easy peasy.

all best to you all

Hi Leslie,

I've got an idea too :)

Maybe I shouldn't talk about it yet, but I'd like to create blog webrings:

>"Local blog webrings": for example, expatriate in Spain

>"Nationality webrings": for example, Spanish expatriate

I think it could generate traffic too ;)

Well I won't prepare this before a month or two because I am moving to London, and I need to find an accomodation there ... but I am sure everybody would like it.

What do you think about this idea? Would it be a nice and usefull feature?

Have a nice day,

Julien

ps: I must remember to send an email to the admin of the Expat Express webring, I am sure he would be pleased to help (I already spoke to him a while ago but we were both very busy on other projects). Does anybody here know him?

Yes, Julien a webring is kind of what I had in mind... except that a webring hops from one site to another and what I proposed is more of a web spaghetti, in that each website would link to every other.  Does that still qualify as a ring?

The advantage of 'spaghetti' over (my understanding of) a ring is in traffic, but not necessarily traffic coming from within the ring.  For instance, if you look at the way Technorati seems to rank a site's authority, alot depends on how many links a site has to it.  Google is the same, and of course is more impressed by the page rank of the linking site. Of course, I'm not telling you anything new, this is all basic SEO stuff.

But the difference is that bloggers don't have the inclination or budget to go spending money on buying links.  In the big, bad net many of the 'free' links are frankly not the sort of thing you'd want coming off your site.  So a community, like expats, it a brilliant place to start a linking campaign.  We can all benefit and it's free.

But you undoubtedly know more than me, I'm new to blogging.  How would you start?

oops, I'm supposed to be at work.  Shh.  look busy. LOL.

And expat express seems to have died! http://www.jjournal.ca/index.php?s=expats :(

Julien

Feel free to use the forum to make new friends and exchange links ;)

I've got an email of expat express'admin somewhere I'll drop him an email when I'll be less busy

So what's up with this? I think it is a great idea and I would be more than happy to link to other blogs. Mine is fairly new, but I've been spending downtime from work trying to optimise it. If anyone wants to trade links, let me know...

Cheers
