I just bought a blue barrel at the Opa-Locka Flea Market, which is between NW 119 th and 135th Streets, and NW 32nd and 37th Avenues. The Flea Market admission is free except on Saturdays and Sundays, when they charge $1.00 to get in the woman that sells the barrels is on the northernmost row of stalls. some parking separates where she is and the used trucks and tire stalls. I had to pay $35 for my last blue barrel, because it had not been used. Make sure you get a barrel with a removable top, as there are some for liquids only that only have a 1½ inche opening for liquids.

I shipped my barrel, which was quite heavy, from Embarque Capital. 490 SE 11th Avenue, Hialeah FE 33010.
This is a small operation, and they domno9t seem to keep regular hours. You shoudl call them prior to delivering the barrel. Call Yraida Hernandez @ 786-334-6349/ cel 305 219 6779, or Junior Rodriguez, @ 786 222-7705. They charged me $125 to shiip the barrel each time to SD and then forwarded it on to San Cristobal, as this made it closer to Barahona.. Delivery takes about a month. I am not sure if electronics will incur no tariff. The stuff I sent was no more complex than an electric toaster.

yes it will/can make the price go up. The original intent of the barrel shipping started for the Philippines to ship cheaply back to their home country after WWII ro help out family.. It was not to make money or ship industrial items or equipment. The program was expanded over the years to include many countries and DR is one of them. You can ship household electric items. just will have to pay extra for equipment like commercial motors , pumps, (bombas) tools.etc. If you are honest. If not you may get away with them but I have been caught and the barrel cost went up to pay the tax. I shipped a large industrial compressor pump and took it apart. it weighed 475 pounds . the limit is 500.00 It made attention so the caught it. The program is for household items only. clothes etc.You will have no problem with a toaster or anything like that. Always make a list of what is in the barrel . they damage a lot,

those are BUNG HOLES ,Xavier the small 1.5 inch holes

planner

Xavier do we assume that you are referring to New York in your post?

Hi Guys,

I am not sure if the person from Toronto got their answer but I will be moving from there soon and the best guys to use are Peralta Brothers Shipping. They ship everything door to door for a very reasonable rate and it takes 3 weeks.

Hope this helps someone

I agree that the small openings are called bung holes, but I was unsure that this term would be understood so I did not use it.

I live in Miami, and I cannot comment on anything dealing with buying barrels or shipping them from NY.
I have never lived in NY.I did not mean to imply that I know anything about shipping anything from anywhere but Miami.

So the addresses you are referring to are in Miami????  YOu see my confusion,  I had no idea what city we were referring to.  Thanks for clarifying.

Xavier_Onassis

Yes, I am in Miami.

I would suggest to anyone wanting to buy a blue barrel to go to craigslist for the nearest large city and to do a search on the words blue barrel.  These things seem to be  made in China and sent here filled with chemicals for things like shampoo and all manner of stuff.  I have seen them for sale new for over $60, but they should cost about half as much for the 40 gallon ones. There are also 55 gallon barrels. Not all of them are blue: I have seen white and black ones as well.  Make sure that the top is detachable. It is sealed with a ring that snaps closed and there is a place for a small lock or piece of wire to prevent pilferage.

There are companies in Miami that supply the barrels for a nomimal fee. Also large very sturdy cartons. you pay up front for them, after delivery you can return them for a reduction in price.  A due diligence search will supply you with the info. all this has been posted before.  Happy to say that I'll be coming home soon. It will take about 5 or 6 barrels to ship my stuff.  Kitchen  stuff, household tools, ie., drills, sanders, hand tools benchtop table saw, router etc.  Clothes, personal posswssions & lots of spices, herbs, cast iron etc.  Not enough stuff for a 20 ft. container. It is very difficult to find an LTL. Plus that would entail a port to port transaction. the "blue" barrel option iis a door to door service.  To solve your problem, read the many prior posts to answer you problems.  I think that this should end this thread for those who are looking for already answered questions.  Of course those in other countries should make their inquiriers in their home arrears.

The names, addresses and phone numbers of these companies would be helpful. Just the name would probably enable someone to find these companies online.

I usually manage to find anything, but I have not found this sort of service.

Hi Planner
Thanks for the message but I didn't get it!!

institutelouisville

Hi guys,
As we are preparing for our move to Sosua, one question came to mind.. We should get our residencia in October and we will be shipping a container to our new home. Should I give a copy of our residencia to the shipping company so that the DR authorities won't charge us the 18% ?

planner

I would say yes, if you want a referral to a good Customs clearance guy let me know!  He does all our work for us and we have imported US 2 million of machinery.  I trust him.

dreamtime

I'd like the contact of the customs guy. Thanks.

institutelouisville

Thanks for your response Planner ! We are only shipping personal items, linens, dishes, Cd's, dvd's, bicycles, decorative items.. No furniture at all.. we still need this Custom guy?  if so, i'll take his name please..

gypsy401

ALWAYS use the customs guy, it is cheap insurance against problems. It doesn't matter the type of items, customs will put their value estimate on them if you don't have receipts for EVERYTHING !!!

Caribbean wantabe

I'm getting ready to ship 3 large boxes filled with clothing, shoes, book bags, etc. to an orphanage in the DR.  Is there anything imparticular I need to be aware of before shipping?  Will the recipients be required to pay tax upon receipt?

institutelouisville

thanks for the replies Planner and Gypsie..
We have hired an international company to move our stuff from door to door. I guess I need Planner to give me the name of this custom guy so that I can give it to the international company. Is it expensive to hire such a guy?
