Hi All
I have recently had great success in gettting my external antenna fitted and working - thanks to this blog.  So much to my dismay I have had internet issues all weekend and some, so have my neighbours,.  Is there a fix or a way of managing this at all?

unfortunately, now way, why? Coz your station that provides the connection is still under maintenance or the transmission isn't okay, same goes for downtown, but eg here in Gergaresh the signal is full and speed is high. that's all.

If your neighbours are all suffering similar problems, it suggests an ISP problem.

Don't call LTT though, their customer care staff haven't been to customer care school.

Thanks for the feedback - so I have no way of knowing when it will be back up adn I simply sit and wait?:(:(

The problem is every where in Tripoli... we just got a new modem which looks like a water kettle to overcome the issue...

All back up and running - at least for now.

WiMax and Libya...not much you can do with the two of them in tandem.

I have been a subscriber since WiMax was introduced here. It has never worked well, consistently, or for any extended periods.

At times it is screaming fast, but usually you are lucky to just have a connection. The system loves to tease you with an occasional burst of speed, but the bandwidth ultimately drops to a crawl. The attitude and mindset of this, or for that matter, most companies is as long as people continue to subscribe, why worry about fixing what’s wrong, upgrading the equipment, or expanding capacity. Add in the pricing structure and people used to real internet service are in a vice.

The alternatives are not pretty, ADSL much more reliable, but at on 2 gig per month: useless, or cell modems with 45 hours per month, again, not much hope there.

We have checked into the satellite internet services, they do offer unlimited, lightening fast, reliable service for only 18,000 dinar per month.

So we love/hate our WiMax and wait for the day when it all gets resolved. It will get resolved, when it is meant to be. IBM

Here in Benghazi, the only realistic approach seems to be to get on the 'net when most Libyan's aren't (e.g. during prayer times, especially on a Friday) so as to amximise your share of the clearly over-subscribed bandwith - a "5-bar signal" means nothing - we have rocket-sized antennae of our roof, but...
