Advice needed: Should I start my teaching career in Thailand?

Post new topic

MingYue

Hello everyone,

I'm a Vietnamese who want to experience life in Thailand. My plans is to take a TEFL course in Chiang Mai and start out as an English teacher. I got a TOEIC certificate with total score of 805 when I was in highschool and currently working as a HR specialist for a multinational corp in Vietnam. Therefore, I'm very confident with my English.

I did my research about life as an English teacher in Thailand and found out as a non NES, non Filipino, my chance of finding work as an English teacher with decent salary is very slim, even with TEFL certificate and all.

But still I hold my hope as I'm fascinated with the idea of living in Thailand. So, honestly, is there any chance for me to get an English teaching job in Thailand? Or should I start out on a different path?

Your advice is greatly appreciated Thank you for taking your time reading my post.

Hi Yue
It may well be difficult for the reasons you already mention. That said TEFL course providers often help find placements. Maybe an inquiry with your chosen provider(before you spend money on the course)might throw some light on your chances of working as an English teacher.

Good luck.
