Affordable, safe area for family

Hi, all! My husband is up for a job in Brussels. If hired, we will be moving from the US. We have 2 children under the age of 3.

I stay home with them, so finding a school is not a concern. We will not have a car. We have never been to Brussels, so I am looking for advice on areas to look for housing.

Our rental budget (for a furnished apartment) would be around 900 eur, unless the salary ends up being much more than expected.

We would just need 2 bedrooms and are content with a small space. We'll need to be walking distance to everyday necessities, such as grocery stores, parks, restaurants, etc.

I just want to feel secure walking out the door with a stroller and exploring the city.

Oh, and my husband's job is near CHU Saint-Pierre hospital, in the city center.

If he could walk (or bike) to work as well, that would be great.

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Hello ericalbowen and welcome to Expat.com :)

For all search of rentals, you may check out and drop your own adverts in our Properties for rent in Brussels to get to know the price.

Browsing the forum by 'Forum Categories' is a good way to gather related infos.

Don't do furnished, 99% of housing is unfurnished. Furnished costs more and brings more problems.
900 euro is not a great budget, but doable.
Anywhere really, though more multi-national are the communes east of the tiny Senne river, more narrow national are the communes west of there like Anderlecht and Molenbeek.
Doesn't matter where you are in Brussels, everything is walking distance or great public transport.
Cheapest area to work I'd choose would be St Gilles, or Etterbeek.
