Retiring in Costa Rica

Post new topic

Is it hard to find work for a skilled cabinet builder in Costa Rica?  Thinking of retiring in Costa rica and still continue in my trade.

If you are skilled, the work is in high demand. The pay is extremely low compared to what you are accustomed to in the US, though. We are paying our cabinet maker $200 for our kitchen and bathroom. (KITHCEN: one under the sink cabinet - 2 sides of shelves w/doors and 2 sides of drawers of different sizes, a simple shelf for a wall, and BATHROOM: an under the sink cabinet with a door and false drawer. All of that in a fine Costa Rican wood)

He has excellent skills and is in high demand - his customers wait months for a finished product.

I do not know what the market is like with the people who can afford to pay more for quicker turnaround, though. Or if there is even a market here for that. Ticos do not believe that time is money like we do in the US.
I would suggest contacting contractors, US or Tico. How's your Spanish?
