At least the member is trying! (and also following our rules) Please keep that in mind.

Rather than poking fun at someone, perhaps you should look at some of the other forums to see just how big a problem posting in other languages on an Anglophone forum can really be.

Hello Jessie Mendoza,

Thankyou very much for not posting in Tagalog. I'm sorry that at least trying to conform to our rules and post in ENGLISH ONLY on our Anglophone forums seems to be less important to some of our members than a grammar lesson or simple fingerpointing. Don't let it bother you, your efforts are really appreciated and THAT is what matters most here at Expat-blog.

Cheers,

Let me re-write it:

Saudi Arabia is a wonderful country, but shariah laws are very strict. During my first stay here, I think i stayed for 4 months, a car stopped just in front of me and the driver asked me get inside the car, I didn't get into car as he was motawa, in my mind he is a dangerous person.

@James - sometimes it's very difficult for people to understand "English" if it's not nearly correct. Or having a correct grammar so that people who respond here regularly don't infer something else and respond in a totally wrong direction.
Therefore I agree with @rareshine to correct those people in the start only, so that they put more efforts to write properly on the forum.
And also we should not encourage such type of writings on the forum as it directly affects the quality  of the blog.

Cheers !!

Ure getting all bent out of shape, James. I didn't understand what he wrote; yes, there was some slight sarcasam but the point remains.  IT. Was.  N.o.t. clear.

rareshine

Kom,
I didn't get any of that. At the end of the post, I understood he himself was mutawah.

kom340

Well, then you should learn English.

Some sarcasm? Please spare me... as I have been an English teacher for over 28 years I have no problem whatsoever understanding what YOU are saying.

My concern is not in trying to gently correct the member, but rather the way in which it was done. It clearly appears mostly geared toward humiliating rather than educating, and as such digressed into the area of a "personal" comment. Our various forums have a CODE OF CONDUCT, which I know inside-out, since I was the original author. It states clearly that members should post in English only in our Anglophone Forums. That being the case, then we as members should at least try and respect members for whom English is obviously not their first language, but they're trying their very best to conform to our rules of conduct.

We spend literally hundreds of man-hours each month trying to sort out "wrong language" postings and to convince our members to post in the "official" language of our 5 language-specific versions of each of our forums. I can tell you from personal experience it is a significant problem, but it's not going to go away if people here are pointing fingers and making jokes, what WILL happen is that many of the members will simply feel humiliated and leave.

It's not always WHAT you say, but more often the WAY you say it that expresses the TRUE sentiments..... sorry, you came off as very critical and patronizing. Is English your first language? Have you learned any other language? Think back to when you were beginning to learn that language and ask yourself how would you feel if somebody poked fun at you???? The word humiliated leaps to mind.

I stand firmly behind my original comment, your comment was:

1. Off topic;
2. Unkind;
3. Unnecessary;
4. Not helpful;
and
5. Sarcastic

I didn't read the paragraphs you composed, but I asked for clarity, so what exactly was off-topic? There was no topic to discuss due to unclarity.  Thank you, good bye.

Hello Friends,

Most of the EB members will not understand what is going on here.

For the expats who have lived in Khobar/Dammam for long years will know that due to female shortage, cultural and religious restrictions, a particular class of locals find a lot of attraction in young boys  of a particular Asian country.

I do not want to go into un necessary details, one may still see some men in shopping area with light make up, feminine perfumes and bright coloured clothes to distract or attract such relationships.

The down side of this scenario is the male sexual harassment faced by our poor friend who was followed by uniformed officials who tried to pick him up or offer him a lift. :whistle:

Post 14 needs pictures to be really interesting.

You're right - this thread is getting a little odd.
