I was really hoping to get a personal opinion from someone in a similar position - but no luck yet.

Having lived in Manchester for 7 years. It all depends on your budget for a property. However, for you I would recommend Altrincham (which has a direct tram link to Media City http://www.metrolink.co.uk/tramtimes/Pa … ncham.aspx), Didsbury, Wimslow (which isn't too far from Manchester). If you are looking for a more quirky lifestyle with trend bars close to the City Centre, Chorlton is a nice area.

Actually we are moving first to Sweden but Manchester is still a possibility later.
