hi!
Moving to HCMC in 3 weeks to teach English, and I need a lot of help and advice.

1) vaccinations. Which ones should I get? They are pretty pricey so I don't want to splash out on ones I don't really need.
2) money. I assume I'll need to set up a bank account in Vietnam , so how much money would I need to bring initially ? Bring dollars or dong or both ?
3) business visa. Is my company meant to send me it? I was told it was being processed months ago but I haven't received or heard anything since. Do I get it at the airport or is it sent to me ?
4) health check. I need a health check when I arrive. Where is the best hospital to get this done ?
5) general help. Any advice for when I arrive or what I'll need to bring with me , I've never been to Asia before and I'm travelling alone so I'm a little terrified.

Vietnam is more safe if you be careful (just some poor thieves)  :)
You should bring:
1. Your passport
2. Air ticket
3. All of your original certificates
4. Driver's license, if you wish to transfer with Vietnamese Driver's License.
5. Enough money for your expense until you get your pay check!
You can bring dollar. Vietnamese like dollar more than Dong  ;)
When you reach at airport just change little for small expenses.
Almost your queries answered so many times already. Just search from concerned categories.
Here is the Health System
If you are going to work for someone, they will arrange your work visa, work permit and TRC.
You should ask your company to send your visa whether it is Work visa or business visa.
Here is the TYPES OF VISA poste by bluenz . Check and consult with your employer.

Major Education

Hi Emiliee,

Which company are you coming to work for?

They should be able to answer all these questions as they should have lots experience in these areas to help new teachers feel at ease moving to a new country.

Good luck with your new journey!

FYI, 3 weeks isn't enough time to get any vaccine done on time. You need at least a month out. Assuming you're not living in the rural area then you should be fine. Otherwise, typhoid and hepatitis shots require months in advance. You might want to pack malaria medication as well if you are planning on traveling to the country side.

bring a recent criminal background check, original hard copy (no digitals accepted; UK flatmate made the mistake of getting the digital and his local embassy would not authenticate it), signed/stamped/raised seal-- if there's a question of state/provincial vs federal/national -- get both!
