Aloe Vera Plants, Goat Milk or Unpasturized Cow Milk

Post new topic

LOLPuertoRico

Greetings all!

Can anyone suggest a source for aloe vera plants, goat milk or unpasteurized cow milk in the west central mountain area? I'm located in Maricao. The aloe and the milk are on the important list but, in time,  I am also hoping to locate some pitahaya or pitaya plants or cuttings if anyone has some available.

Many thanks!

Try "la pulguilla" in Mayaguez, is every weekend on the industrial zone, by the beach. The last time we went (2 months ago), there were several vendor selling plants, if they don't have it they can get it for you. Also,  there is a group in FB called "tu jardin, plantas y tus mascotas" there is people there that you can contact and they may be able to help you find the plants you looking for.

Thanks Adlin!

I am directionally challenged. Every time we go to Mayaguez we, literally, spend hours trying to find our destination. We've been dying to go to the beach but I have not been able to find it any time that we have been there. Could you, please, offer some basic directions to the flea market or the industrial zone?

I'll be sure to check out the FB group.

Thanks again!

I find that google maps on my android is very helpful in navigating.

I will ask my sister for directions and post them later on....

You would never guess that in my previous life, pre Costa Rica, I was an IT professional working for a major company considering, now, I'm not sure I know exactly what an android is. I'm positive it is a cell phone or has something to do with cell phones, LOL, but I couldn't give you any specifics. Anyway, I don't have one but thanks for the suggestion. If you're wondering, YES, I held on to my VCR for dear life before finally relinquishing and buying a DVD player.

OK, here are the PR directions...Take Autopista RR52 (Highway), take the "zona portuaria" (industrial zone, shipyards), follow the signs to the "pulguilla" (it is done on the weekends), you are not going to miss it since it will be pack with cars. Sabana Grande have one as well, but the one in Mayaguez is the biggest one in the west area. The one in SG is on the east part of town closer to the baseball stadium.

Sorry I cannot give you more direct directions, most people (Like my sister), know how to get there but cannot remember or know the streets names (the ones that do have names).

Gotcha. Thanks!

Hi Check out Govardhan gardens.  http://organicfarm.net/  He is out on 106, Mayaguez Barrio Batayes.  I think from maricao, pretty close.  He is about 6 miles from 65 toward UPRM. I don't know which highway you take from Maricao to Mayaguez, 106?  105?  You can also go to his webpage and email him.  He's very helpful.  He definitely has goats. I'm sure Aloe.

good luck :)

I love this guy! His name is Sadhu and he is one of my life-style heroes. He is doing a lot of the things that I am interested in. He was the first person I contacted but he doesn't have any extra milk right now. He has some aloe on his farm but doesn't, technically, sell it. He suggested his neighbors for both. Unfortunately, they do not have any extra milk either. Great suggestion, though! Thanks!!

I was at Mayaguez Mall two weeks ago and saw a large display of plants for sale in the corridor near the Rincon Cooperativa.  I can't remember if there were aloe plants, but there were herbs and local fruit and flower trees.  I remember the prices being really good, especially at the end of the day ($2-5 for herbs and smaller plants, more for larger ones).  I don't know how often they are there, but if I go back this week, and see them, I'll get more info.

I have seen some local plants for sale at the farmer's market in Rincon as well, but I didn't look long enough to get specific details....

I'm still looking for raw milk as well as a good source for local pastured eggs.

I have purchased aloe at the Mothership-----Walmart.

Ugh, I was just at Mayaguez Mall on Friday! Thanks for the info. I'll take a look the next time I make it down that way. If I find a source for raw milk I'll be sure to post it. If you have a bit of space, chickens are super easy to keep. In Costa Rica I free-ranged in our backyard and would be doing it here in Puerto Rico if my landlord would allow.

I could kick myself for not checking out Walmart while I was there on Friday. I must have been too focused on the Krispy Kreme store. There are these chocolate pudding stuffed donuts topped with raspberry filling that are just mesmerizing. If you like donuts, you gotta try em. Thanks for the Wallys tip!
