Why do loads of vietnamese bear the same name? Of 100 people, at least 30-40 could bear the same name(s)

Just asking though

Hi, I used to think about this. I think because some Vietnamese names have good meanings, so every family want their children to possess a good name and they hope their children will be good people like their name.

For example, for female, you usually see the name "Thảo", "Hiền", Trang", ... "Thảo" is from "Hiếu Thảo" which means pious, or generous.

The parents want their children to respect them and take care of them. "Hiền" means kind, nice, good characteristics. "Trang" is from "đoan trang" which means decent, polite.

For male, you can see the name "Tuấn", Hiếu", "Tâm", ..."Tuấn" is from "tuấn tú" which means handsome, healthy and intelligent. "Hiếu" has same meaning with "Thảo".

The parents want their sons to be nice to them. "Tâm" means a good heart with literal and figurative sense.

I hope my examples can satisfy you. Have a nice day!
