In how many countries have you lived or would you like to live?

Can you stop moving once you've liked it?

I am myself an european expat; I lived in Barcelona (2000), Paris (2001), London (2003/2004), and now Madrid ... and I'd like to move again next September! This time I'd like to leave Europe (maybe for Oceania or Asia?). Since I began to work on this website I am dreaming a lot :)

I'd like to move too, but I also have to work? What's ya occupation? Do you have any job in Spain? Do you find easily an other job when you move so often? And how about ya friends, family, I mean all the people you know, you met... Do you not miss them?

Julien

Well at the moment I am working as a freelance ... mainly for my last employer in the UK (I am living in Spain). It allows me to move! But little by little I am realizing that I would prefer to work for a bigger company that would send me to the other side of the planet ...

And yes I miss my family and friends each time I move, but I always come back ;)

I'd definitely move again. I have the attention span of a gnat. Once I figure out how things work and where things are then it gets boring for me. I'd love to live in Poland or Czech Republic. If I could spend 6 months every year travelling then maybe I wouldn't feel the need to move to different countries all the time. Unfortunately, money & travelling go hand-in-hand so I've been stuck here for almost 8 years with only one trip to Spain during that time.

Julien

SeaWitch, if you could move again which country would be your next destination?

I am flying to London this wednesday for a job interview ... I might go back to the UK ... at the moment I don't know if I could go back to a place that "I already know" ... the world is so big and life is too short!

I'd like to move too ... like everybody here ... But I don't want to live in bad conditions so I need to find interesting jobs abroad ...

That is the most difficult : moving and finding a good jobs!

I would like to go to Australia after my 3 years in Italy ... who knows.

At the same time, when I think about my future ... I don't know at all ... when I will have kids (if I have some)... how it will be ???

But for sure, if I am not an expatriate anymore, I will become a tourist of the world !! I will not stop going in new countries and discovering something special... The only difference will be that I will have only 1 or 2 weeks to do so

Trouble

I have the next five years of travel planned out, although the part involving Sweden is beginning to look like a poor decision.

I was born in Canada, moved to China, then went home for a bit and realized that being at 'home' wasn't what I wanted anymore.  I love Canada, but... eh.  So, right now I'm in Scotland.  Next is Australia, then New Zealand, then Ireland, and then... Sweden, maybe, or France (ooo... France!), or some place else.

Ultimately, I want to spend another year in China, working on my Masters Degree.  I want to look at the Chinese oral tradition regarding women in folklore.  Which means *someone* has to learn Mandarin pretty darn quick here!

Yeah I'm a bit worried I'm never going to be able to say 'well, this is a country I am totally happy in' and settle down...

London, Paris, London, Bonn, Leeds, Brussels, Warsaw and I'm only 25. I'm thinking of going back to France in 18 months or so. It's too much fun exploring another place, and although you miss friends and family, I usually find they're more than happy to visit.

(Actually my parents are in Brussels and my brother in Toronto so I have a good holiday excuses too ;) )

I find that when I am somewhere and I begin to settle - into my job, my home, my social group - that I want to see and do more. My best friend is my lifeline and he lives in Utah but my family is in Italia and I grew up in FL, was born in NY and loved when I lived in Chicago but with the direction the States have been going - I knew that I had to be in Europe so I am starting in the UK with the goal of being in Italia or Greece. I don't know if once I settle in one of those places I will feel settled but I do know that they are among the only places in the world I feel at home.

I´ve stopped. Puerto Plata is HOME...

Escott

I have stopped also!  Dominican Republic is now home and I am now Dominican with Citizenship.
(But you NEVER know)

Carina is my buddy and although we live 25 miles away we see each other often and we just did a charity auction to benefit children where we raised about 6500 US Dollars.

Julien

Congratulations for the charity, I hope it will help children!

I love to move (like the majority of us here), I´m never going to stop I think...

From Sweden to France, from France to Spain, from Spain to Switzerland, from Switzerland to Spain again.....and what would be next....My dream would be Argentina (not that hard to realize as my future husband is from there)...or another country...we´re young and have so many things to see!!!

loloieg

Why did you go twice in Spain ?? ... I know, sometimes you do not choose everything ...

But, to my point of view, I would like to go once in every places I would like to, before returning in a place already visited (even if it is the most beautiful place ...)

Mandy

well, the first time to work as as aupair and to learn the language....and the second time to live with my boyfriend (as I met him in Spain the 1st time)....I have the same ideas as you, going once to every country and see everything before going back, but sometimes the heart is choosing before anything else!
We´ll see what country will be next...

It may sound a little sad but I've never really had a place to call home. My parents and I moved around a lot. When I came to the UK, I thought that my city here was definitely going to become my home. I was even thinking about buying a house here. But then, I realised that I needed a change of scene. Or at least, a bigger city. I'm not planning to leave the UK any time soon.

I've visited quite a few places and liked them so much that I would like to be able to say that I've actually lived there. So that actually reduces my list to Canada, Holland, Belgium and England. Next I hope to move to Scotland.
