I got a offer from Automobile co. from Muscat.

They are offering me 500 Basic Salary Plus 150 other allowance plus 2 BHK fully furnished accommodation plus all utility expenses company will take care plus Car.

My details:

I am married with 9 month Kid and my wife is house wife.

I am drawing  here 15 lac and saving 6 lac pa.

We are pure veg and used to go 2-3 times restaurants in a month.

Will I be able to save any amount in Muscat? Is it a good move?

Dear Gaurav,
You may be able to save equivalent of around 9  lacs per year. May be since you are earning well in India, you need to consider all pros and cons and perhaps negotiate a bit more considering that relocation back to India for future professional growth( if needed)  is not that easy.

Hi gauravjain,

Though the salary offered is pretty low for a professional degree holder, it is not too bad - given the package, and without forgetting the challenging times here for all expatriates, more so for those originating from Asia. Since accommodation is provided for the bulk of your expense would be curtailed. That in itself is a savings. Also since the money you make is entirely tax-free, that would be to your additional benefit.

Secondly, you should not do a direct conversion of what you are now earning with what you have been offered, since the market and economic dynamics differ vastly.

Given your background, you should be able to put aside about 50% of your monthly income every month as savings.

Thank you very much sir for your revert. Its helpful

Hi Gaurav, I am a CA myself and I can tell you right now the offer is not very good if accommodation is not separate.. If accommodation is provided separately take it and jump to Dubai after two years. Rent will cost you at least 400 rials.. Normal living costs plus occasional entertainment will cost 250 rial for a family.

gauravjain

Thank you so much for your revert.

Yes, accommodation will be provided by the company. And after all your input II can summarise that I'll be end up with the saving only 250 rials pm. That us too low for a CA degree holder.

What happened to the market? I really don't understand.

If accommodation, transport, utilities  provided you can save up to 350 OMR. Most savings in Oman get busted in air travels with family due to family commitments etc,as companies provide tickets  only once a year.

auditor_manu

You will be able to save more than that. And standard of living and comfort is better than India. I would  suggest you take the offer as your net savings will be more than 6 lacs per annum that you currently save. After a few years of Oman experience you can easily jump to Dubai for more than double your current salary. For some strange reason, GCC experience is considered important in Finance job market so get that and jump jobs after a few years.

not worth your Qualification and Exp.
consider only at-least 1000OMR + Home +Car +Misc

Thanks for your valuable revert.

My advice is to stay in India as life is extremely expensive in Muscat compared to Mumbai and the said salary won't be enough.  You'll need to rent an apartment which will cost you around RO250 to RO300 per month.  A care would cost around RO150 to RO250 and so on.

gauravjain

Family Accommodation will be provided by the company. Now what would be ur opinion.

You can save around 350 OMR. But growth is limited as one cannot switch jobs in Oman. You may have to relocate other Gulf states.Oman is a beautiful nation and you will love Quality of life

gauravjain

Thanks dear for ur valuable advise. For quality of life i want to consider this offer.

Yes, it will be a good move provided you have been given Housing, feeding, medical and insurance to your family and let salary be tax free.
