Long term car rentals/lease?

Post new topic

Mveitenhans

I will be moving to PR for a seasonal position lasting October-May. I will be in need of a car but am wondering if anyone knows of any long term car rental places or lease places? Or is there anything like "car to go" or "zipcar" on the island? I don't see the point in trying to buy a car and then have to turn around and sell it 8 months later!

Thanks for any input! 😀

Not sure if this helps, but we are a military family and when we arrived on the island, we had an extended rental with Enterprise (used the office in Condado) to hold us over as our vehicle was in transit.  You may want to call around to different rental agencies.  There is an agency here called Target that seems to be quite popular.

Hope this helps!!!

Still cheaper to buy one here and sell it when you leave.   If you are dead set against buying try banco popular rentals.  If you open a bank account with them you will also get a discount

If I can find a decent running vehicle for around $2000, I would consider buying....do you think thats possible?

Thanks for your input!

Thank you!  I'll contact Target :)

You can find a good working car here for under $2000

Is clasificadosonline.com the best place to look?  Will I have to get a PR drivers license to own a car in PR?

Thanks so much!

Yes the classifieds are the best place and if you have a license from most other states you can get a PR license with no test.

You will have 30 days from the time you move to PR to change your license. In order exchange your license from any state, the license needs to be current. You can register a car in PR without a drivers license.

I will recommend go to the CESCO office with the owner of the car to do a change of ownership BEFORE you give any money. Any tickets given to the vehicle will become your responsibility if you purchase a car and it have fines. Going to the CESCO office will prevent you getting stock with a vehicle that have fines. Look in the forum for other folks that had this happened to them.

If you buy the car from an authorized dealer, they will register the car for you. But spect to pay more at the dealer.

You can find good deals in the "clasificadosonline", just do you homework...good luck!!
