Hey Julien, saw your article in NoS today. This is a great site. I've been here 10 years permanent, but this is the first time I have a contact with European ex-pats.

I have now 3 nationalities, Czech, British & Mauritian so I regard myself as true Internationalist (professional foreigner). As an ex-police officer I sympathize with the sentiments of road traffic problems & driver behavior on the roads, I'm of the opinion all the locals have a death wish. If only I was still in the Job & they gave me a fixed penalty pad I could soon bring in probably more money than sugar industry for all the stupid things people do on the roads.

Anyway I'm glad I was able to make a contact with this website and hope to contribute to it in the future.

Regards
John Mertl QPM

That article sure invoked some interesting responses from Mauritians who appear to have a very biased view of expats. I have via the Defi website replied to two of the correspondents to put them right on certain issues!!!! Not all expats live in their ivory towers which is the apparently general concept of those who commented. Many of us who came here through marriage to a Mauritian live extremely modest lives and do not live in enclaves or mix only with our own fellow nationals. Perhaps on reflection the title 'Help I am a European living in Mauritius" was wrong -certainly I would never cry Help!!!!

Hi settled!

Some of the comments were indeed quite harsh. But there were  also a lot of readers telling us that they found it interesting.
I hope that they didn't make you feel bad. If you would like to respond to the comments in the paper also, we have a page called "views". If you email me a text I'll have it published there.
