Hi,

To be able to move in Chile, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Chile: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

You need a RUT number which is easy to get when you land in Chile. Besides that, just go into a car dealership and buy one. Or get on chileautos.cl and find one. Insurance is really , really cheap.

For used cars you could also get good deals in yapo.cl . You will have to pay more or less 12 percent tax of the value of the car.
