Hi,

To be able to move in Iceland, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Iceland: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Kenjee

The process is easy. The dealer will take care of everything regarding registration and all fees and costs are included in the price of the car. You only need to contact your insurance company.
If you buy a second hand car you can drive it home right away, if you buy a new car the registration porches usually take about 2 days.
You must have Icelandic  kennitala( social security number) to register a car and buy insurances in Iceland.
