Hi,

When settling in Mongolia, one of the priorities is to be able to make phone calls.

How to proceed to get a landline installed in Mongolia?

What are the mobile operators?

What is your average monthly budget?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Maximilien

hi
noone needs a land line any more...  if you want one then go to the central post office and order one. Thhen you're also able to get DSL.

But nowadays mongolian people go mobile, this is easy. Do it too.

Best deal with mobile + internet was Unitel for a while... some of the sim card salesmen don't even ask for your passport and the 10 GB (outside of UB 5 GB) package was 20.000 a month, including big bunch of credits for calls to Unitel subscribers...

For internet there are some companies putting LAN cable into your home, or if you're lucky and living in one of the new build houses you might get a Sky Media (name of the company) package with TV and internet for 30.000 Tugrik a month. In the Altai Khothon (and in many others) there is already a LAN plug in the wall and 50 or 100 Mbit. Also free wifi is nearly in every restaurant, coffee shop or even bar.

For international calls there are some discount system like the Globus world from Mobicom (100 to 150 Tugrik a minute), but with regular credits it costs you 300 Tugrik to a land line and 600 Tugrik a minute for a mobile call e.g. to Germany, USA, France or other EU countries. China and asian Russia is going to be cheaper.

Most expensive (and probalby most reliable) is MobiCom - but they have also the bad manner to cancel your sim card when you were abroad too long, sometime credis just disappear...

And never ever think about G-Mobile. They use a system your cell phone doesn't understand not even a Quadband one. On the other hand G-Mobile is strong on the countryside - where the other operators Unitel, Skytel and Mobiicom fail.
