Dear All

I have received an offer from an small - virtually new start-up Elevator company. My designation will be Manager - Sales & Marketing. I ill have to do direct sales to start with, as well as manage a team of Sales Engineers and Other all departments/operations. I will be next to the MD.  I will be working at Muscat. The company have agreed to offer me 1000 OMR initially, 200 OMR Increment after completing 1 year, 1% Sales Commission,  Furnished Family accommodation, Car, Family visa expense and driver till I get License.

Now must questions is
1) Is this a good offer. I have 5 years experience in this industry.
2) I could understand that sales jobs are 100% omanised from this blog - Please clarify, if true how have been companies recruiting. I have seen many ads by BEC, Khimji Ramdas etc for Indian sales people

Also, I would appreciate if you could confirm the below costs per month as bachelor and family. I will bring my family and 3 year old kid in 3 months time.

1) Food for Bachelor Indian style- Not vegetarian not cooking = 50 OMR
2) Food for Family Indian style- Not vegetarian complete cooking = 200 OMR
3) School fees for 1st Std in a CBSE school = 50 OMR
4) Monthly GYM = 10 OMR
5) Internet = 25 OMR
6) Electricity = 30 OMR average for 1 BHK
7) Outing with family = 100 OMR per month like eating our or visiting some place etc

Any other expense I should be considering.

Thanks in advance

While I agree to your point numbers 2, 5, 6 and 7, I would differ with item 1 and I have no idea about item 3.

You should most definitely revise item 1 to 150 to 200 too .

I have been having food outside, hence I can tell you , even the Non Veg Thalli in an ordinary restaurant (Koliwada in MBD Ruwi) would cost you OMR 1.5 for Mutton or 1.3 for chicken . Add 100 baiza for water. If you have a good fish (hilsa) and Rice is Dawaat , it would cost you 5.50 OMR and a Khana Khazana non veg meal would cost you a little more than 2 OMR. The only way you could meet a target of 50 is by engaging veg options ( OMR 45 for 2 meals and breakfast at Dosa PLaza).

If you are single , except for Biryani, a la carte would be a waste .....unless you have a partner or you have an wonderful appetite. Hence if you are planning not to cook, you would need to revise your budget.

As for the salary , i note 2 points.
You shall be next to MD (which is a senior role) ....and you have a sales commission.
I am not sure how much that commission would translate into . But as the second person in seniority, you need to earn close to 5K OMR in total . If for for furnished housing and car we take off 1K and your fixed salary of 1K , you should be making anything between 2 and 3K as commission.

Thanks

P.S. : I Have considered OMR 650 for a good fully furnished 2BHK , 180 to for the car and balance of 1K goes towards drivers salary.

Thanks, I will revise food cost. As far as the designation is concerned, this is a small company. In a small company designation doesn't matter. May be as you said I will be able to take 2K commission after developing the team.

Can anybody advise on Sales job Omanisation?

Thanks

Sumitran

Hi salesandme,

Officially, all Sales positions are 100% Omanised.

So technically, your resident card would necessarily mention some other profession other than Sales.

Thanks Mr. Sumitran

Wont that be illegal. Doing sales job and having resident card mentioning some thing else. Also my visiting card (being in sales) will bear Sales Manager designation.

Should I bee taking this risk? Frank personal opinions please

Hi salesandme,

Omanising a position 100% is theoretically possible. But practically, if no locals are available to do the job and when the job has to get done, who else but an expat will do it ? This is the same issue with many other fully Omanised positions. But life has to go on. And it sure does. I hope you have found the answer to your query somewhere here.

Thanks Mr. Sumitran

Sorry, for the delayed response. Anyhow, I found answer from your post. I spoke to my employer on the same. He said that will not be a problem for managers. I think he will mentioned my designation as only "Manager" for visa rather than adding "Sales & Marketing"

Now, I am getting into the second phase called "The GAMCA Medical test". I will post on my experience on this test next week.

Thanks all
