Hi Folks

I am currently earning about 11L in India with 4.5 yrs of MBA work ex as a Business Analyst in peopleeSoft. I am answering an interview for a position in Malaysia and they have asked me to quote an expected CTC in Ringgits. I am quite confused as I do not have a clear idea about the cost of living for 2 people in KL. After going through the threads, I can estimate roughly that 4.5-5K will be spent on living expenses on a monthly basis. Considering that much in expenses and 26% tax, I want to save at least 50K INR per month, i.e ~3500 Ringgits. Can I quote 12000 MYR per month? Do they pay that much for a candidate with my work ex and profile?

Hi,

By calculation, you are getting almost 6k Ringgits per month in India now. So you should ask for minimum 12k Ringgit, as living cost is 2 time higher here.

But as far i know, they will not give you that much salary. So basically it's depend on your priority. if your priority is work to abroad ask 9-10k, with that salary it will not be easy to save 50k INR each month but still possible. if not ask for 12k, if they agree come, else i think you will be better of with your current salary at India.

Thanks

Hi your living costs don't allow for the high cost of living here and extras like medical costs. One trip to hospital is easily 4k. Many locals I know were ill a few days and 20k RM bill!

12k (gross) isn't that much especially as it is by definition a contract job.

Other factors of course to consider like career advancement via experience are hard to quantify but obviously can justify a move.

There are Indian nationals here who get paid proper expat salaries (25k+ per month) but a whole load of "slave" labour on 6k. Why I can't work out - if 22 year's old in ITC and on  a jolly good. But most Indians are very serious about careers so I can never work it out why. 12k is to me is the absolute min salary for any serious candidate over 27 with proper experience.

If they say no (they prob will) then you have avoided a typical cheapskate slave driving Malaysian employer. If they say yes easily you asked too little! I would start at 14k and allow some negotiating room to 12k.

Good luck!
