Hello all

We have a new feature on the site which is an Events section.

You can now easily create an event about your next meet up, and invite your friends and follow how the event evolves easily.

Check out the section : Events in Mauritius

Its quite straightforward.

Hey Barbara and welcome :)

We have made you the de-facto co-leader of the meetup and it turns out you weren't yet in Mauritius  :D

Please open a new thread and I will try to answer as many questions as I can about day-to-day living.

For TV/phone, I suggest getting in touch with Orange or looking at a service like this:

Hi - I live in Black River and hope to join you on Sunday.  Will probably come with a friend who is also an expat.

Hello Jenny, I live in Flic-en-Flac and I'd like to go too but I don't feel like driving there on my own. Could you give me a lift? I'll share the expenses.

Hello Barbara,
I live in the North near Grand Bay and willing to give any help to a newcomer. Wish i had some one to give me good advice before i fell into some pitfalls here but i have learnt to carry on.

Rgds,
Brendan

I can give you a lift.  We were planning to leave Black River at 10.30.  Any chance you could get to Cascavelle for 10.45?  We could meet you outside the door to the book store.

Just a reminder:

Date: Sunday Dec 13, 2015.
Place : Mon Choisy beach
Time : 12 noon
Food , drinks , bring and share!!

We can meet at the pineapple seller point, just at the end of the road right after the traffic light. Then we can find a better spot.

I assume by about 12.20-12.30 everyone will proceed to the beach to sit/relax/talk/etc.

So if you get a bit late, you will find everyone else at the beach (apparently it is a long beach, so hopefully somewhere near the pineapple-seller point?)

PS. @clintonjay: if possible, please post the exact coordinates of where we will meet so that people can find it on Google Maps (thanks)

Hi Rushikay,
sorry for late reply, i have been away the past few days trying to sort out some issues.
i think you guys should message Barbara for her number in case anyone arrives late for the meeting.
And plz you can put up your number so others can contact you as well.  i will try and be there though

thanks

Looks like a rain washout day
Went near pineapple vendor area but could not locate anyone ...expat? ?
Maybe a reschedule and also a covered area in case of weather changes will b good  like pointe Aux piments public beach with huts and picnic areas in centre.......

Yes the weather was out of favor. i pass by on my cycle and couldn't spot anyone too.
May be we should make an Expat.com/ expat.com flag to get spotted easily.

Nas

Dear all, Barbara & company is still on the beach, if somebody would still want to join- they are close to the fruit selling point- 50 m away- facing the beach front. Have a lovely Sunday afternoon

rushikay

Sounds like a good idea to reschedule, as the weather wasn't favourable today.

Can anyone recommend a date?

Bravo Claire. You managed to do it. It was nice meeting the two of you even though the weather was not quite good. I feel so sad for those who didn't come, they missed a lot. Jenny was very brave to drive from Black River to Mon Choisy. And thanks to you I could go too.

Hello Rushikay,

We came from Black River and Flic-en-Flac and we had a nice picnic in the rain on the beach. But you didn't show up, what a pity.

swieckaanna

It was a great pleasure to meet u all, hopefully we will organise another meeting soon

It was so great meeting you today ladies. Let's all arrange something soon. Fingers crossed we can get everyone involved next time and maybe we can choose a venue indoors in caudan,  Port Louis?

Sorry about that :)

Getting sick from the rainy weather is something I was concerned about.

I'm glad all of you ladies had a great time though  :top:

To all the ladies who braved the weather and to those who drove up from Tamarin THANK YOU. The picnic was lovely and putting faces to names
was even better. The New Year get together is definitely on, venue,  date and time  to be arranged.
MERRY CHRISTMAS aND HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all.

HI,
Unfortunately Mont Choisi is a long beach, so struggled to find the pineapple stand. After driving around for a while, manage to spot it like at 12:35, plus the rain didn't help either.

Look forward to the next meet up.
Cheers

Nellinou

Hello Barbara,
Are you set up already?
My name is Nella from Montreal and of mauritian origin actually living in Moka.
Welcome to Mauritius.

GuestPoster66478

Hello Nella, thank you for the welcome. Nearly set up just waiting for my container to be cleared.

Sorry you did not find it - we only managed to as a result of remembering the someone pointed out the traffic lights and the Tarissa Beach Resort hotel on the blog and we still missed it initially.  Shame about the weather but good to meet some fellow ex-pats/returning Mauritians.  Suggest that we chose a more weather proof option for the next time.  Also parking was a bit of a challenge, so need to think about that if we want to do the beach again.
