Internet Questions

Post new topic

Revolutionary

I likely will be moving to Vietnam sometime in a next couple years and it is looking like the best option for me as far as housing goes will be to find a nice room to live in until I get established and comfortable with the area.

I have noticed that virtually all of the rooms available for rent offer internet service but it is all virtually through Wifi which would be an issue.

My job, a remote one I would be working in my room, requires me to have wired access to the internet.

My question is how hard would it be to get a hardwired internet port in my room, an Ethernet port...or even a separate internet account where I could have my own internet access.

If you are staying in a hotel/"serviced apartment", the building has their own parameters and internet sources.  This you can't change since it's supplied from the owner who is in charge of any building changes such as an Ethernet port.

If you were to begin renting an apartment in an apartment complex or a house, then you would have your own private internet access.  The wifi is usually your own wireless router which you can unhook and plug in.  That would be your best bet.  If your room is not equipped with an Ethernet port, it probably won't get installed due to cheap owners and unpopular demand.

I don't have a problem getting my own internet account, as long as they won't have a problem with the internet company running a cable to my own personal modem.

Its just that my company requires it for security reasons.

I am in independent contractor with this company so they will not pay for anything or sponsor me. They just pay me for the contract work I do for them.

If you are moving here and will be living here, an apartment should have a personal internet source so you just have to buy a long enough cable to attach it to your computer.  If you are planning to stay in a hotel for a few and hope to have access to an Ethernet port, that could be difficult because the owner won't just install something permanent for someone temporary.  I'm surprised your company won't run if you use a VPN.  Most people that are worried about privacy issues buy a VPN account.

Hi
Don't worry about wifi here, it's cheap,  if you need strong internet for work let use viettel supplier.  But it depends your house/ department owner used.

My plan is to rent a room in private household for a year until I get the lay of the land and figure out my next move.

I am an independent contractor for this company...they are not sending me to Vietnam, I am considering moving there for a change of scenery.

If a private owner will allow me to run a Ethernet cord to their router then that will be fine. Heck, I'll even supply a top quality router as well.

Not planning on staying in a hotel for that long...I want to mingle in the community if I can.

Thanks for the replies guys and girls. I think I have the answer I need
