Hi,

It’s not always easy to decide in which area to settle in when moving to New Zealand. According to you, what are the best cites to live in?

Which regions offer most of the job opportunities, a good quality of life, an affordable cost of living?

Share with us the cities you would recommend to expats and soon-to-be expats in New Zealand.

Thank you in advance,

Julien

Well if you talking about jobs and employment opportunites then no other city can beat Auckland... At the same time Auckland offers an awesome quality of life ...
When it comes to affordability then Auckland is worse in all of new zealand.. Salaries are not best and housing/rents are unbelivibaly expensive.. Let alone expensive its like a mission to get a place on rent...

Other comparable city would be wellington..

But if you want to live in the fastest growing and city that is holding the future then go to Hamilton..
"1 hour drive to Auckland airport"
"Centerally located in north island"
"Decent number of jobs available"
"World class medical facilities" (second in whole nz)
"Decent housing options and almost half the rent you would get in Auckland"

Yeah...in employment for sure Auckland are the best city...but less salary due to less competitions of opportunity,  but I really like Northland from Whangarei and up...! Cheap region to live....somehow job opportunities.... But I like most Far North especially Paihia...a very nice place, cheap house for rent and nice beaches...its amazing place and you can meet more than kiwi's around...almost all Europeans citizens  and Africas are found in Paihia....awesome place.

Indeed Paihia is a beautiful Calm place and I love to visit there.. But its dead area.. Its not for people like me who loves to socialize and needs community (Own cultural) .. Nothing to offend but everyone have their own priorities..  :)

Now that is a loaded question.  However consider the following.  New Zealand now counts amongst the most expensive countries in the world to live in.
Quality of life and Cost of living goes hand in hand.  Without sufficient money in your pocket to explore the country one could argue that your quality of life will suffer but this all depends where you come from.
Single income families are almost unheard of meaning to survive both the husband and wife must work.  Landing your next job may take considerably longer than you think - this is my view having lived here for 6 years.

Good Day,
I would have to agree that this a loaded question.
There is one thing to make note of. If you are NOT a resident, you can forget the hope of finding work until you have done your paper work and become a resident. Getting a Work Visa/Work To Residency is very difficult.
As for best place to live and settle, goodness, both islands are great. Just depends on what you are looking for. The choices there is mind bungling. New Zealand is that beautiful, South Island has many winter sports and the Southern Alps and plenty to do, but don't leave out the North Island either.
Just enjoy where ever you choose, you won't regret it.
As for cost of live, that all depends on what country you are moving from. As for me, it was much better living than most places in the USA with less crime rate as well.
My choice, anywhere in that beautiful country will do but I do love Wellington the most.
