Hello from Croatia

Post new topic

Domi

This is where I should have started, proper introduction!!
Hello to the whole world!
I came back few month ago after 4 years in Melbourne, Australia.
I'm French and my husband is Croatian. We are currenlty living/travelling between the 2 countries not exactly sure where we want to settle this time. We lived together in Indonesia, France, Croatia and Australia, all in the past 12 years...in the meantime we had the joy of welcoming our son to the World.
I hope we find our place under the Sun one day. I really thought we did at the beginning in Australia but it turned out not to be the place we thought it would be.....
That's it for today!
Cheers
Domi

Hey Domi, welcome ! :-)

Julien

Welcome on board Domi,

I read on another post you are from the south of France? (I grew up in Perpignan)

How will you make a decision about where to live?

All the best,

Julien

Domi

HI to both of you and thank you for your warm welcome!
I was born in Montpellier, my family is still there but I left a long time ago first for holiday and then to study abroad....I always wanted to master a few languages as I knew that would be the key to a proper communication with people from diverse cultural backgrounds...and to that point, I did exactly what I wanted to do, eventhough I could learn many more languages!
The question you're asking Julien is the one I'm asking myself every day since I came back from Oz: where/what is next???
We surely need the challenge of being in a place where we won't feel bored nor blase after 6 months. For the start, I think we'll give Croatia a shot. It's nice for one of us to feel like a "first class citizen" (I think any expat reading that knows exactly what I mean...)again. Australia was hard for both of us but even harder for my husband who really got branded because of his nationality (me at least, being French, it always helps :o)))) you also know what I mean!!! "what a lovely accent! you are French!! waouh, Paris is soooo beautiful - well Montpellier too and a lot of other cities across France! and the wine, and the food and the...bla bla!!!)
I do feel blessed nevertheless to have had the chance to grow up in such an environment. I came to the age where I don't have such a critical and negative opinion of my homeland. I stopped being rebelous about it and learnt to be objective when I see how much it gave me.
Well well, enough for now and sorry for the long speech!

Oh Domi ! I live in Montpellier and I wouldn't change for anywhere else ! :-)
I have lived in three continents, and after leaving South Africa, my big big dream was to go to Oz and live there for a while. But I found, for the first time in my life, Montpellier is my real home... I don't want to leave and start over somewhere else... I love it here... So I hope to go to Oz sometime for a long holiday. But I found my home now and it's so precious to me after being a nomad my whole life (I'm 26).
