Leaving California for Puerto Rico im 19. How to proceed?

Post new topic

Im pretty young at only 18 soon to be 19. I live in SoCal with a Puerto Rican mother and I'm eager to relocate to PR to intake all of the culture and people since it is apart of my mothers culture.

I'm aware of the awful economy and transportation issues and weather along with crime and drug use on the island however I'm still very interested in staying in PR .

Does anyone know how I would be able to accomplish this ? Should I go to school there ? Rent a place?

Look for work? Or are there programs in which I can stay there with someone for a while?

My point is I wanna be in Puerto Rico and that's it ... How should I go about this ...

Hi David,
It is great that you want to connect back with your roots and come to PR.
Since you have a Puerto Rican mother, see if your mother has any living relatives in the island, they may be able to put you up with a place to stay,
As to work, that is a hard one. There is a lot of competition for the few jobs that are available, you may get lucky but you may not.
Stay away from bad influences, careful who you hang with, while you may stay out of trouble, your new friends may be involved in something and get you in trouble.
I will let others in the forum that currently live in the island help you too, so I will keep this short.
