Hi,

As an expat living in Denmark, what would you advise the ones about to pack to bring along?

What are the items you can easily find in Denmark? On the other hand, what is less common or quite expensive?

Share with us what you would recommend to bring in one’s suitcase or container when moving to Denmark.

Thank you in advance,

Christine

I am an immigrant from the US, here for twenty + years.  What you bring depends on how long you plan to be here.  Everything is more expensive in DK than the US, and you just have to use your common sense in combinations with the expected duration of your stay and the cost of shipping bulky items, like furniture.  I had originally planned to stay for just 2 years.  I brought over a couple of suitcases worth of clothes and my computer stuff.  I shipped books and remaining clothes.  That was it.  After 1.5 years, I got married, and I then shipped a few more things and moved in with my wife and child.  I bought what I needed over time, here, and on trips back to the US.

Sorry, I can't be of more help.

One thing to warn about.  If you require prescription drugs, you can bring what you have with you from the US, but after that, barring trips home,, you cannot have prescription drugs sent through the mail, as DK has very restrict regulations regarding prescription drugs.  Also, the stock of over the counter, non-prescription medications is quite limited compared to the US and the UK.  For example, Advil is not sold here and drugs like the generic compound in Alleve are by prescription.  Ibuprofin is widely available without prescription.  If you use over the counter drugs that you are particularly attached to in your home country, you may want to bring enough to keep in sock until you next travel home.

Good luck.
