Essentials to live in Qatar

Post new topic

Christine

Hi,

As an expat living in Qatar, what would you advise the ones about to pack to bring along?

What are the items you can easily find in Qatar? On the other hand, what is less common or quite expensive?

Share with us what you would recommend to bring in one’s suitcase or container when moving to Qatar.

Thank you in advance,

Christine

Well, do try to tin pack food items you would like to enjoy there, if you want to have pork or any other item, you can tin pack it, but do not inform the customs on the airport about the use of pork as it is Haram there and they will trash it away.
Also make sure that you've got international driving license as making license there is quite an issue you have to take classes and give computer test.
Try to learn the language Arabic at least basic words like, "Where is this place, What is the price, Where can i get and etc. Install google translator on your Phone.
Also make sure you are ready for the scams, use google maps and don't let cab drivers make fool of you by charging extra.
And yes last but not the least, get a vpn account to unlock your local programs like Netflix and all, There are too much restrictions in Qatar.
All the best have safe flight :)

The most important thing you should take is clothes (here is too HOT weather and also too cold) so you should take appropriate cloths the one you feel comfortable.
Eye Glasses (if you wear or lens) you should bring an extra set as these are in reasonable price compare to France/Mauritius but it will take time if you want to make a new one.
Some medicine specially antibiotics if you can, medication here is little costly and you can not buy antibiotics without hospital slip. As per my experience for better hospital you again have to search in the area where you reside, or until you get the insurance card (it can take 2-3 months as Qatari ID is must) its better to be safe in case of health related issues.
You should have a driving license, so would suggest to check if you need some attestation from embassy, it will help you to get Qatari Driving license as soon as possible.
Rest all things you can find here, but to get the best price you have to check with offers of different markets.
Hope this information will help you.
