Wind Turbine Energy

I am very interested in moving my business down the the Dominican Republic.  Our group has been in the wind energy business for 15 years now.  We specialize in behind the meter private installations.  If you own a business or have high energy consumption or rates this would be ideal for you!

While I welcome you to the forums, we frown on shameless self promotion.

That said its a great idea!  Tell us how it works, why people would convert? Homes or just businesses?

Seabee35

I have read the Dominican Republic suffers in energy dependability.  Also, I have a passion for reducing the amount of oil we all burn.  Please forgive the self promotion.  ;)  In the end, I have to reach out to share with people my ideas.

It all depends on your annual draw.  If you use a lot of energy every year and the price of competing electricity is high then it could pencil for home use.  Mostly we install for businesses that want to lower the cost of their annual power bills.  The Dominican Republic has a lot of wind energy so that should really help to produce a lot of power.  I have several refurbished/retrofitted wind turbines that are very competitive and would make home use or smaller projects actually feasible.  Each install becomes a unique business model tailored to that person.  Makes my job fun!  Hope this helps.  If something like this would interest you I would need some information from you to begin doing my research.  Basically 6 months of your power bills.  This will help me evaluate what the price is per kilowatt.  You can ex out all the personal information.  I would also need to know the area you live.   If you live in a community perhaps a joint deal for several home owners could work.
Thanks
Cliff

I just asked for general info, I don't use enough power. But we have unstable electricity at ridiculous prices so there is a need.

Seabee35

Cheers to helping solve the problem!

I will drink to that!

Bob K

Oh come on Planner you will drink to anything :D:D:D:D:D

There are some places that are using wind power here now but not many.  It is currently very expensive to install and maintain.

Solar is just starting to catch on here in a big way (at least on the north coast)

Oh and welcome to the forums

Seabee35

Hopefully I can change that!  I have several units that would be much cheaper to install.  Thank you!

Bob K

That would be nice. When you are up and running I would love some info.

Bob, if you PM me I can send you a pdf on one of the turbines, and a potential business model.  What area are you in?  Live in a community?

thecolonel

Seebee35. I don't think there will be much demand in the dr since power wasting and its price seem irrelevant to most gringos.  Sure, they sometimes complain about the price to A/C, and run their pool pumps and hot tubs etc.........but not too much.

Seabee35

Perhaps not in the expat community.   I suppose if someone were running a business it would probably be more enticing.  Do you know the cost of electricity per kwh? I have heard its rather high.

thecolonel

Seems high everywhere, and they still have frequent brown outs in some places. Yes, in 2016..I thought those were stories from say 30 years ago.  Depends on the business too, whether it's important. Restaurants use a lot, but they just factor it into their bill on their already overpriced menus

planner

The marginal rate from the state distributors is 11.86 pesos per KWH. This kicks in at 700 kWh mark.

This is the household rate not commercial or zona franca rates.

planner

There could be great demand from business!!!

Seabee35

Seems it!  Especially if it is inconsistent.

Bob K

thecolonel you are so wrong.  I live in expat community and we almost never run our AC. have solar for our hot water and like most of our neighbors are looking for ways to avoid the high cost as well as the inefficiency of the electricity here.

I've live here in the DR 16 years running my farm off the grid. I use solar and wind to make power and propane refrigeration to save on energy. Ochoa, some years back, started selling Southwest Wind turbines and charge controllers. This, to me, is one of the best wind systems. Since they are carried by Ochoa you can easily maintain your system. I'm just mentioning this for people to know what great products are available to them here. Thanks

Thanks for the info

Great info.

thecolonel

It's more a matter of you being an 'out-Lyer' rather than me being wrong.

thecolonel

Rather, you are more of an outlier.

Bob K

Not sure about outlier but most often will walk to the beat of a different drummers.  Some times a whole damn band :D:D:D:D

Seabee35

Bob, did you get the information I sent you on the Nordtank 150?

Bob K

I did but have not looked at it yet.

Tomorrow's reading :D
