Car registration question

Post new topic

OK, I purchased a car last year from a used car dealer on one of my trips down. At the time I didn't have my (all important) SSI card with me. I sent a copy down to the dealer and I had a friend (who is as clueless as I am on this stuff)  pick up my title and along with that, they gave him a form  which shows a complete description of the vehicle plus the dates of the marbete (1/2016 to 12/2016) and has a long inspection station number. Since I didn't get this prior to leaving on my last trip I was unable to deal with it. The sticker ran out in December and I will need to get a new windshield sticker.  My question is does the inspection station give me the sticker upon testing? Can he take the vehicle for me to get it inspected or do I have to go?  And, what is the cost?

Thanks
Bob

Yes, after inspection (if they actually do it) they give the sticker, and the paperwork... don't leave the previous years' sticker on... some do, and some nit-picky highway cops will ticket you for that... and rumor has it, they'll ticket you, if you put the new one on too soon... something about the insurance not being yet effective... I cannot attest to this, but the inspection station attendant told me this, last year.

Thanks for the info.

I can give you a partial answer.  Yes, someone else can get the car inspected for you. I know, because someone did it for me.

Anybody can have the car inspect for you. And you can buy the sticker at some gas stations but only if the expiration is on  the following year. I could not buy my sticker at the gas station I have to go to the (main office) Obras Publicas, to get it. The reason the gas stations only have stickers that expire 2017. (Go figure) if you are in Mayaguez area it is better to go to San Sebastián,  less people, better service.
