COFFEE MEET UP Monday 6th December

Post new topic

IrishAlexandrian

Enough complaining about not being able to meet up with people!
Let's make an effort to meet up in 5 days time in Zamalek at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at 8pm.
It's central and easy to get to!
I would really like to meet some new people, before everyone jets off for the holidays!

What do you say?

IrishAlexandrian

It is on the nile side of the island, near the um kalthom statue, a few blocks before moris sushi.
I don't know the exact address.

Y30

Eypicanmeraty

of course I was trying to get together for the past month.. and I let Cairo on tuesday and now everyone is excited to meet up again :P

Y30

Sorry, it would have been really nice to meet you - we're obviously just disorganised! Let us know next time you're in Cairo :-)

IrishAlexandrian

The meet up is open to anyone who can make it.
The meet up is organized to help expats meet people familiar with how things are done here in Egypt, it gives them an opportunity to network and meet people.
Otherwise it wouldn't be posted on the forum!
I'm really looking forward to meeting some new faces tomorrow!

missdarcey

m.ibrahim

IrishAlexandrian

I'm at the coffe bean in zamalek and its now 8:30pm and so far I'm the only one. Who showed up. I'm/was the person standing out side with the grey shall and beige handbag. If this is the effort people make then I won't be making an effort in the futur.

cairo-soccer

Irish we need to make it more organzied
what abt this friday?

IrishAlexandrian

I'll be out of Cairo this Friday
and after being at The Coffee Bean with only Y30 and myself, from 8pm-10:40pm...I am not making any other attempts to try and organize anything again.
Sorry... this isn't the first time I've been let down like that.

Y30

I had a great time Irish it was nice to see you, thanks for organizing it & being there :)

Who

It's a shame! Was looking towards meeting you - and others.

I moved out of my shell - landed up at 8:10pm .. asked the manager if he knew anything about a group rendezvous .. "Nada!!"

Left a note with him - addressed to 'Irish Alex' .. and also asked him to direct anyone inquiring about the Expat-Blog hook-up - upstairs. Met a bunch of others - we sat around till 10:10pm ... before they decided to move to Marriott's Pub.

Would have been best to leave a message with the supervisor ... else, lost souls 'desperately seeking susan' :(

EmersedShark

actually it was me , mazen , joe , etviola , danah and some one else as well and we got to meet new people there and it was so much fun .. didn't find u guys there !!

P.S. we left a note at the counter as well.

m.ibrahim

Sorry Guys I wasn't attend something happened yesterday then couldn't come

I hope in the next time i can attend , Thanks IrishAlexandrian for your efforts

Thanks and regards
Mohamed.

Y30

Hey, I'm so sorry I missed your call last night and didn't get to meet you - seems like we didn't all find each other even in such a small space. I looked around for about 15 mins when I arrived (about 8.20) and a couple of people came and introduced themselves after a while and things went from there. I think my ginger hair acted as a beacon! We found a space upstairs in the end.
It's difficult when we don't all know what the others look like. I hope you're not too annoyed - we should definitely try again and thanks for making the effort (everyone). Perhaps if we say inside/outside/upstairs next time it'll be better as the messages behind the bar didn't seem to work. Please don't be mad :-)

Please stop sending me messages. I blocked you cos of all the PMs you were sending. You're capable of reading the forum like everyone else so why target me all the time?

Everyone else, shall we meet up on Saturday or Sunday evening and hope for success? :-)

Y30

Guys

we did leave a msg with the supervisor asked if anyone asked about Expat.com/ Irish but the guy at the counter only shook his shoulders as well. We were sitting on the side (only empty chairs by the door at the time & Irish had the view of people coming in  she was there at 8 sharp).

Here's what I think should happen.

When You confirm attending a gathering/event you could at least PM the organizer asking for a specific detail to recognize by on arrival or their phone number as its quite impractical for someone to put their number on the forum. More simple than that Just Write "EXBL" on a paper & put it on the table if no other identifier is agreed upon.

As it is I did check the upper floor of coffee bean last night just for good measure but I couldn't make out anyone (honestly Elaine yes I was looking for your ginger hair as well quite unique here  & you confirmed attendance).

Anyway hope I can meet you all next time.

Shaanz

If it's Saturday or Sunday I would be willing to come. But I think wherever the meetup is the staff should be informed that the group is meeting. That way when people arrive they can just ask the manager, and be shown to where the group is sitting.

Y30

OK how about we meet up Sunday 7.30pm onwards at Sequoia ( 53 Abu el-Feda St., right at the northern end of Zamalek):

Sequoia map

Sequoia photos

We nearly went there the other night so it'd be cool to check it out. it's renound for shisha and good Lebanese food, apparently, and it's open-air on the Nile so should have a good atmosphere.

I'll sit somewhere outside with my trademark ginger hair :-p and I'll have a light brown handbag with brightly coloured beads on it which I'll leave somewhere obvious like on the table. For those who have my number, I promise to pay attention to my phone this time in case there's a problem!

If there are serious objections I guess we could stick with the coffee shop as we know where it is, but I thought it might be nice to try somewhere new.

Hope you can all make it.

Elaine

Guys mazen harake is holding a house party this friday with other expats as well .. it would be nice to have you guys there :)

Y30

aw that sounds great but I'm already going to a friend's christmas dinner on Friday :-(

Stumble_On

Hey all -

If Sequoia on Sunday happens I'd be up for it. Was planning on going there with a friend visiting from Canada that night.

The Londoner

Hi all,

I'd love to come on Sunday, but I work in the evening. If there is anything happening on Thursday/Friday/Saturday evening I'd definitely be up for it. Will be keeping me eyes on this thread.

IrishAlexandrian

Obviously something went wrong on Monday.
I went upstairs and looked around and I saw a group sat at a table close to the stairs but my eyes must have been affected by the pollution because they didn't appear to be xpats.
Y30 went upstairs to check later on too and he didn't have any luck either.

I'm willing to put this saga behind me and to go to Sequoia on Sunday, but if you go how about someone reserve a place for all of those who are 100% certain they will be joining. Let us know the name the reservation is in so we can be led to the table. This time I'll wear my white cap with the letter 'I' on it.

(N.B, I had recommend we meet up there before and I got over 20 yeses and only 7 people showed up)

So, if Sequoia is a GO, someone send me a private message and a number to contact. I'll probably bring an old friend with me.

Y30

Excellent :) I'll check the forum tomorrow morning for replies - Mazen is a yes and I know a few others who should come too.

I'll reserve a table under my name for a sensible number of people, doesn't have to be exact. I'll PM the attendees the reservation confirmation as it's online.

Glad you're going to come Irish - you have my number already I think and I WILL answer my phone this time :-S

Elaine

Y30

I'll try to make it :)

Y30

OK for anyone who hasn't confirmed but wants to come along for for the meet up tomorrow night, I've booked a table for 7.30pm at Seqouia. I'm just hoping the wind dies down a bit! It's under the name 'Elaine', directions etc. are explained above.

So far we have about 7 people - I've booked for 10 optimistically :-) Come along, it should be fun!

Elaine

Shaanz

Wont be able to make am in Alex. :(

IrishAlexandrian

Shaanz enjoy the down pour of rain in Alex!
So to everyone else...
Are you all going to show up or are you going to give in to the cold cutting winds and stay home? I don't want to be the only mad person making my way to Zamalek tonight to sit in solitude. (yes, i'm becoming paranoid!)
Y30 is your whatsapp not working?
