Tips and advice to thrive in Malaysia

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hi,

When living in a foreign country, you have to adapt to a new environment, various cultures and different social codes.

How did you manage to adjust to Malaysia?

How long does it take to feel at home? Would you say it is an easy process?

According to you, what is key for a successful integration process in Malaysia?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience!

Hi Malaysians have most atributes from abroad so as long as you get that it is easy. Eg

French toilets (phew!). Real stinkers most of them. French will feel at home lol

British roads and queues. Malaysians understand queues. So brits get this!

American business attitude (loads a money!) mixed with Chinese risk managment (none! It will work honestly!) For europeans this is the hardest bit as europe is a socialist republic. Actually this is the biggest barrier for most people

Indian politicians moral values (same as British victorian values) ie anything goes lah as long as not caught!

Generic "face" but nowhere as bad as Japanese or Thai face that is insane for westerners. More Indian style face. Germans/Americans suffer the worse as they are too direct.

Thai attitudes towards wealth. Flash it man! Biggest most expensive car you can afford. Wear you wealth. Gaudy designer clothes! Eastenders from London and Russians  get this though as same. Europeans and most Brits find this distateful and rather "third world". Unless here long time funny when you see Matt Sallehs go local. Anyway i am off in my Ferrari wearing my heavy gold rings and necklace. Bling bling!

All said with British humour.....
