Clothing with Reasonable Price & Reasonable Quality in Suitable Place

About buying clothing, I know 2 main options which not suit my needs as below;

.

1) Market places like Ben Thanh market..etc
CONS:
- Place condition is not suitable. You cannot try and compare easily before you buy.
- Quality is not always as acceptable.

.

2) Big shopping malls
CONS:
- Prices are extremely high when compared with average of Vietnam market levels

.

And,
3) For the rest (including some individual stores on street), for most of them, finding Big Sizes is very difficult or impossible.

.

Do you know any place(s) which has,
-reasonable price
-reasonable quality
-enough conditions to try & compare before buying
-big sizes for expats

.

?
Thank you very much if somebody can help...

You try to Have a look :
Saigon square at 179-183 hai ba trung or 77 nam ky khoi nghia
- taka plaza 102 nam ky khoi nghia.
But you should bargain about 50% of price or discount 1/3 price

As I know they are open market places similar to Ben Thanh market ..not very available to try before buying...am I wrong?

..as previously advised...   (essentials to live in Vietnam...)

Try tailor made.   TRIP ADVISOR will give the best reviews.   Far better than store quality - at 1/2 the price.   But don't take my word for truth.   Check it out for yourself.

..same applies to (better) quality shoes...    .

If possible I want to reserve this as last option (if cannot find any solution)..
If I can find some stores, it will be much more practical for me..
.
Still hoping to find some useful help (names, address..) in this forum page :)

You are right to avoid the Bến Thành tourist trap.
I have bought things at Saigon Square, you can try on there, cleaner then Bến Thành and vendors don't grab at you, but still mostly Asian tourists shopping there. Name brands are copies.
Go to big malls if you want name brands, but there seems to be import duty, and I have never seen a clothing sale at Vincom Center or Parkinson. I did get some real Reebok shoes on sale at Crescent mall in D7 one time, there are specialty stores.

So then: shop where the locals go. One place is Nguyễn Trãi clothing street from District 1 down into District 5. Mostly small stores, mostly for women, very busy at night and fun for motorbike people watching.
I have also read on expat.com that the Russian Market in D1 has bigger sizes - for Russians I guess - but I haven't been. Google it.

I checked shirts..some of them labeled as XL, but in reality they are medium or large (but absuletely not XL, only lable is XL)
I am just 183cm tall and 94kg..not huge....but I couldn't find any big size

OK well I am 6 feet tall and built like a walk-in fridge and I found loads of shirts, t-shirts and jeans  to fit me. I agree that the sizes stated on the tables aren't always consistent with reality, but you have to do a bit of searching. Try XXL or even XXXL to get what you want. Two T shirts from the same maker with the same XL label may be two different sizes.

TalhaSami

I checked but never saw XXL or XXXL ..but I didn't look to classical models, I was only looking for like polo / sports style models..maybe because of that..

Hannahpham

my advise is simple.
do you have any vietnamese friends? ask them to oder clothes for you.  there are huge online store which selling good clothes with reasonable price and shipped right in front of your door.
shopping in shop???  uhm it will never work, even with me as i never know how to bargain

This is not electronics, how to buy without trying, seeing, comparing ?

Hannahpham

actually, they have store which you can come and try on too. but my point is, if you check it online first, you know the price and size

Well, its where I get my stuff from and I take xxl size. I see that the place has mixed reviews on the travel sites, but when I go I take my wife who asks the shop assistants for what I want and the size and she then haggles the price. Obviously you have to check the quality but thats the same for anywhere here.

mpduongbay

I'm french 95 kg and not very tall I can only find shirts, shorts polo XXL in the BEN THANH market in Saïgon but not in the center of this market but in the first gallery that runs allaround .
Contrary the center of the market you can't cut down the price cause the girls said it's a state shop  !!!
