Looking to move to Chang Mai in June 2011 .... Need to find a job

I am presently living in Santa Barbara CA ( I have lived her for 15 years) Prior to that I lived in Los Angeles for approx 15 years and prior to that in South Africa for 15 years. Finding a job as an Asset Management Specialist has not been easy since I was laid off in June of 2009, and I think believe its time for a change. My wife is Thai and she goes back every other year or so. I have never been to Thailand but I have heard so many great things about the country.

I am  trying to find out more about Chang Mai - the good the bad the ugly (if there is any). Hopefully I could obtain a job as a English Teacher - I cannot speak a word of Thai.

I would appreciate any information on computer access in Chang Mai
Can I buy  a English alphabet computer?
Can I access the Internet easily.?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Geoff

No problem buying a computer with English language software and keyboard.

Internet access is not a problem either.  Speed will be determined by location you live.

Also sent you a personal message.

I also wonder about the variety of jobs I might be qualified to do in Chaing Mai. I happen to have a renewable energy background and I know there are a few companies popping up in Chaing Mai where they might appreciate those skills. I plan on being passable in speaking Thai in about a year.

I imagine teaching English will be a low hanging fruit. What rates do English teachers make, assuming they are native English speakers?

What businesses do you think need skilled English speakers who are also decent at doing business in general?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter

Geryli

Hi Geoff, I worked for CLBS for more then one year. CLBS supports various companies in there daily business. A customer care specialist answers calls, arranges appointments, takes orders, is responsible for quality management etc. I`ve never heard something bad about the company and I enjoyed my time in Chiang Mai very much. If somebody would ask me if I would work for CLBS again, I would say yes. It was a great time! You can follow CLBS news on Facebook or the blog on the internet. I also do it, because I want to know how my previous employer is doing...Maybe I come back someday and I work in the same team like you :)

Thank you Geryli!
This is the first comment I see from someone who actually worked for CLBS (not just applied).

Could you please give a bit more details about your daily life while working there?

Do you know what kind of profile they're looking for (similar experience needed)?

Or, by any chance, do you still know someone working there? that could maybe give me more details?

Thanks!

Lanem

Just to provide a reality check....my friend who is Thai has a university degree and works at the university and makes 10,000 a month or about $85 a week.
