Spaniard in Portugal, maybe going to Texas

Post new topic

jcerunner

Hi, everybody. I'm Spanish, I'm actually living in Portugal after being living in Tunisia and Chile.

I'm 35 years old and I'm married with two kids, who were born in Chile and in Portugal.
Maybe my next destination will be Texas (USA). I also speak french et je l'écris aussi, donc je peux me communiquer aussi en français.

I have just known this web page and i think it's a good place to share our experiences as expats.

Julien

Welcome Jcerunner :)

Happy to make a new multilingual mate! Where are you from in Spain?
How many languages can speak you children?

Take care,

Julien

Remind me to explain how to insert the small flags in your signature :)

Olivier de Montréal

Bienvenue jcrunner!
Pourquoi le Texas?

Oui, Julien, ça m'intéresse aussi, les drapeaux dans la signature!

jcerunner

Well, let´s go step by step:

My children right now speak spanish and portuguese, which are in a certain way quite similar. Now they are learning english at a bilingual school in Madrid, preparing themselves a bit in case we go to the USA. But I think they will lose the portuguese soon, it's quite difficult to keep the portuguese, and we prefer to push english an spanish. After we will see.

Et pourquoi le Texas, parce que l'entreprise pour laquelle je travaille peut avoir des projets là-bas. Nous sommes en train d'attendre jusqu'á avoir des nouvelles.

Julien

Is this bilingual school in the avenida de los Toreros? That would be very funny, I used to live in front of a bilingual school last year in Madrid :D

jcerunner

No, it,s on the norwest side of Madrid, near Las Rozas.

So, did you enjoy your stay in Madrid?? I think so ;):)

Julien

Yes I did! I've got spanish roots and I love Spain :D

As you can see even if I am in London I haven't replaced Madrid's Bear by Big Ben yet!

Riana

I lived in Portugal for awhile also and have completely lost my Portuguese. My French is replacing it, I wish that they could both live in my brain together happily, mais quelle dommage or que pena, they wont!

Thats great that your kids are learning so much- kids are so great with picking up languages! You will need Spanish in Texas for sure, but it is Mexican Spanish which is a little different, kind of like American English and British English.

All the best, Riana

jcerunner

Riana, did you like your stay in Portugal? Where did you live?

The problem with portuguese languaje is that it's quite similar to spanish, so for the kids, it's not very helpful when they're learning also spanish. We will see.

Julien, I saw "el oso y el madroño" in the picture, I was surprised, lots of memories...

Julien

:):):) Lots of memories for me too mate!

I really miss Spain, actually I am sure I gonna end up in that country one day!

Riana

I lived in the south near Lagos... then traveled the country extensively. Oporto and the Douro river valley were my favorites. Well, hard to have favorites in Portugal each town and little village has so much to offer. But I enjoy my life in France just a little bit more than Portugal ;)

Why not those times, since you're leaving London... ? ;)

Julien

Well I might go somewhere else before mate :D

jcerunner

The next week will be very important for knowing my next destination...

Let's see

Julien

Let us know ;)

Does it depend 100% of your company?

jcerunner

Well, after this week, I continue on the same situation. Everything has to be decided . Let's see. Even that, I figure my next destination will be on the USA. But it's quite different going toTexas, hot and sunny, than going to Chicago, the windy city, with temperatures under 0ºC lots of months per year!! Let's see what happens!!

Jo Ann

Hi JC.
I lived in Portugal for 4 years. In Lisbon. Normally I said "I gave 4 years of my life in that country". 2/3 of my family is Portuguese and live there, so I cannot escape too long. But I don't think I'll live in Portugal again. :S
Good luck for your next destination. It's always nice to move around. And for kids, it's great too. As a nomad kid who became a nomad woman, I sure love the way I was brought up :)

jcerunner

Wow, Jo Ann, you've got an interesting life!! Enjoy your stay in France and why not thinking in a new destination ;-)

About me, I'm still waiting for new information about our near future. We will have to wait a bit more. And patience is not one of my best virtues...

Dimi

Hello jcerunner...just saw your intro and thought I'd ask if you found out whether you're going to wind up in Texas. I live in Austin but am actually considering a move to Spain, perhaps within the next year or so. I've spent my life in many different places (grew up as an Air Force brat) and I'm thinking it might be time for another big change in my life!

Hope everything is going well with yours.

Dimi
