Hello everyone,

I realize this is an old post but there was some recent activity so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm in Dumaguette PH now but realized almost right away it was going to be too hot for me long term. Baguio looks like it might be an ideal place temperature-wise. I'm on the verge of booking an Airbnb for a week or a month, starting in January, and looking for a furnished studio to 1 bedroom for under 25,000 P a month, 1 year lease possible. Does anyone know it that's currently possible in a safe area with decent internet in Baguio?

Thank you, Ron.

Hello 39forever.

Happy New Year! I live in Baguio for 15 years, and the Temperature here is almost the same all year through 20°C.

The local newspaper has a lot of proposals starting at 5KPhp. The Internet is good.

If you like I can buy the newspaper and send you the ads. Just give me your email in a private message.

Regards Rudy.

Camp John Hay is a nice area. There aren't many bad areas - for 25 K.

@39forever I live part of year in Baguio, or more accurately the Virac baranguay (10 km from Baguio City).  Baguio is located in a truly beautiful environment.  If you are familiar with the northwest of United States (Oregon/Washington), or Da Lat of Viet Nam, the ecosystem is mountain and pine trees.  It gets to 11 Celsus or 52 Farenheit at night.  It is very unique and extremely walkable --very hilly -- city

There are down sides to a nice place: 1) tourism from lowland is extreme bringing high costs to hotels, short/long-term rentals; 2) very high student populations (5 or 6 universities within 5km of downtown).

From Baguio there are buses to Manila, Baler, or pretty much anywhere to the border of Manila.

Wish you the best.

Have you considered moving up the mountain to the Valencia area of Dumaguete? Many expats use that as their base. Its only a 20 minute ride into town.

When I last visited Baguio in 2006/7 I found the air quality very bad. The thinner colder air traps the smog caused by polluting jeepneys. I'm lucky in that I don't suffer from chest/lung issues but if you are susceptible I would bear that in mind. Maybe the air qualty has improved. Shame the airport is now closed. I flew in on an Asian Spirit Airlines prop and thought I'd landed in a large garden. Delightful!

I found the air to be questionable also, and the whole area is more crowded than it was 10 years ago.  My friends had an apartment building with a view of the airport, but new apartment buildings block the entire area.  No doubt about the relaxing climate, not sure it is worth all the traffic.  Good idea to take a quick look, no long term deal right away.
