Recycling

Post new topic

UniversalStop

Greetings all.

I'm fairly new to the region, and am still not quite used to the idea of not recycling.  Every time I throw away plastic or glass, my heart hurts a little.  Everyone has told me that there's no recycling and that I should get used to it.  However, while at the corniche this last weekend, I noticed big recycling dumpsters for paper, plastic, glass, and metal.

Does anybody know anything else about recycling services around the area?  I'd rather not take a taxi to the corniche to recycle, but I'd consider it.  If that is my only option, would anybody wanna make consolidated trips?

Thanks.

Congrats.  I too, was (am) a fastidious recycler and it breaks my heart not to do so here in KSA.

Unfortunately, I've not seen any recycling bins in Riyadh.

I have seen the different dumpsters only in the corniche though havent seen it anywhere else. But I have seen the trash collectors do shift through the trash and take do separate the aluminium and plastic. My suggestion, put your things separately when u do throw away your trash.

But otherwise, Saudi Arabia is still to wake up and face the reality on recycling.

UniversalStop

That's a good suggestion, assuming I can't make it to proper recycle bins.

I really don't mind to drop them off - in fact, that's what I did back in my hometown (Eastern Kentucky, too, hasn't caught on).  Not having a car puts a kink into getting to the corniche on a regular basis, though.

Everyone I ask about recycling here thinks that I'm talking about bicycles, and the conversation gets very confusing, very quickly.

I totally agree KSA is far away of understanding the benefits of recycling. Anyways, i felt happy when i saw the big dumpsters in Alkhobar. I've seen them in prince Turky street nearby Chili's, and in king Abdullah road, near Aliessa Center. I hope you find nearest ones to your places
Cheers

Excuse my ignorance, but how close are those places to KFUPM in Dhahran?

RedGoblin

The bins are available in a few more places not just the Corniche. saw one set in front of FARM 9 in Khobar, also in front of the computer market on King Fahd Street, Cross 1.

And the place closest to the KFUPM. hmm. I am not sure, but there should be the same facility inside the campus as well. and I am not sure if the petrol that you would burn to reach the places mentioned would offset the benefits of recycling.

UniversalStop

I'm pretty good at combining trips.

Perhaps I could go to Farm 9 for my weekly needs and drop off my recyclables while there?

Thanks for the info.  Appreciated.

well the one int he Farm 9 place, yeah you can do that. that would be a really good way.

Tip: give the hangers that you get from the Launderers back to them. they will be just as glad to get them back and I have actually made a deal with mine.. :P I get a couple of my shirts starched for free..

Funny-:),
There is a bad habit in saudi, when you are shopping they are using lots of plastic bag for packing. I am doing it myself by using less. When i was in riyadh carrefour was selling permanent shopping bag, good idea.

seeing the bins here and there around the city.. you really should check around.. you might be able to find something closer to KFUPM.
