Expand your social circle in Chile

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Moving to Chile means leaving one's family and friends behind. Creating a circle of friends or joining an existing one should therefore be paramount in order to fight loneliness in your host country.

But how can one develop a social network in Chile? Where and how to meet people there?

How easy is it to meet locals? What about cultural specificities?

Share your advice and experience!

Many thanks in advance,

Priscilla

Our social network expanded rapidly when we put the kids in the local school.
We try to do everything we can in our small town so we know the local business people.
We attend church in our town.
We try to be friendly to everybody even when language is a barrier. A smile is the same in all languages.
Go introduce yourself to your neighbors if they don't.
We joined a community chorus. There are also Rotary Clubs, English clubs, and organizations that help people learn English. "English opens doors" here in Chile.
And ,of course, expat meetings in the bigger cities.
I know most of the Americans in our small town but I try to make friends with the natives, also.
