Expand your social circle in Spain

Hello everyone,

Moving to Spain means leaving one's family and friends behind. Creating a circle of friends or joining an existing one should therefore be paramount in order to fight loneliness in your host country.

But how can one develop a social network in Spain? Where and how to meet people there?

How easy is it to meet locals? What about cultural specificities?

Share your advice and experience!

Many thanks in advance,

Priscilla

Hello everybody,

The Spanish are a social bunch and also very keen to learn english too. Language exchanges are a great place to meet up with other expats as well as locals.

Internations.org is an international network for people living abroad and this is another way to find like minded people in your new place of residence.

I find it best to try to balance new friends with a mixture of locals and expats. This way you get the best of both worlds.
Expats will help you through frustrations and keep up with things back home. Whereas locals will give you clues and insight into local events, cultural tips and it will help you to immerse yourself in the new location.

Don´t underestimate invitations to social events, it´s always worth trying once. If you don´t enjoy the vibe you dont need to go back.
