Process of work permits for East Africans

Hi guys,

What is the process to get a work permit, if you're an east african living in kenya?

I heard it is an exempt application? Kindly someone advise me with the details and if any costs are to be made.

As I understand it, work permit fees have been waived from this year, although some sites also say no work permits are needed. However, not all countries in the EAC joined the scheme at the same time. Burundi was supposed to have done so, late last year, but with the political situation, its unclear whether they have. If not, then you will need a work permit, on the same terms as any other foreigner.

I recommend that you go to Immigration at Nyayo House and enquire. Alternatively contact an immigration lawyer, for up to date information on this.
